collecting system. Early in one’s experience, a catheterized approach may be beneficial for maximizing successful access with minimal complications. Once a level of comfort with percutaneous anatomy is achieved, a noncatheterized approach may be a natural evolution to performing percutaneous nephrolithotomy. A larger randomized study would assist in determining the value of pre-procedure catheter placement for obtaining optimal access to the collecting system. As there are a limited number of published randomized studies on access relating to percutaneous nephrolithotomy, the authors should be congratulated on their contribution.”

Antibiotic resistance and trend of urinary pathogens in general outpatients from a major urban city.

OBJECTIVE We assessed the antimicrobial resistance patterns of pathogens responsible for urinary tract infections (UTI) in outpatients in São Paulo, Brazil, as well as the Escherichia coli antimicrobial resistance trend. MATERIALS AND METHODS Outpatients urine cultures were collected from January 2000 to December 2003. Statistical analysis considered positive results for one bacterial species...

Background and Objectives: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the presence of pathogens in the urinary tract. Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are the most common bacteria responsible for UTI. Due to the variety of antibiotic resistance mechanisms, treatment of these infections has been difficult, therefore, selection of appropriate antibiotic has an effective role in controlling and im...

Background and Aims: The rate of urinary tract infection caused by the extended-spectrum-β-lactamase- (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) is increasing worldwide. This study aimed to assess the frequency of blaCTX-M genes in the E. coli isolated from urinary tract infection (UTI) in outpatients. Methods: 240 E. coli bacteria were isolated from the outpatients’ urine samples in the Kerma...

Resistance to Aminoglycoside Antibiotics in Escherichia coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infection in Iran in 2000-2012: A Systematic Review

Background and Objectives: Resistance to aminoglycosides has become a major problem in the treatment of urinary tract infection due to the extensive use of this antibiotic group. Due to the increased resistance of Escherichia coli to aminoglycosides, this study systematically evaluated the resistance to aminoglycosides by Escherichia coli isolated from urinary tract infection (UTI) in Ira...

Evaluation of antibiotic resistance associated with ophthalmic oqxAB pumps in Klebsiella pneumoniae causing urinary tract infection

Background: The urinary tract infection is the secondary most common human infection. Colon bacteria, including Klebsiella pneumonia, are the main cause of urinary tract infections. The occurrence of the antibiotic resistance is a major problem in the treatment of infections. Beta- lactamases and efflux pumps constitute the major defense mechanisms of antibiotic resistance of Klebsiella pneumon...
