چکیده

Detrend fluctuation analysis (DFA) has become a choice method for effective analysis of a broad variety of nonstationary signals. We show in the present article that, provided the nonstationary fluctuations occur at a large enough time scale, an alternative approach can be obtained by using the Fourier series of the signal. More specifically, signal reconstructions considering Fourier series with increasing number of higher spectral components are subtracted from the signal, while the dispersion of such a difference is calculated. The slope of the loglog representation of the dispersions in terms of the time scale (reciprocal of the frequency) is calculated and used for the characterization of the signal. The detrend action in this methodology is performed by the early incorporation of the low frequency spectral components in the signal representation. The application of the spectral DFA to the analysis of heart rate variability data has yielded results which are similar to those obtained by traditional DFA. Because of the direct relationship with the spectral content of the analyzed signal, the spectral DFA may be used as a complementary resource for characterization and analysis of some types of nonstationary signals. ∗Electronic address: [email protected]

Multifractal analysis of normal RR heart-interbeat signals in power spectra ranges

Power spectral density is an accepted measure of heart rate variability. Two estimators of multifractal properties: Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima and Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis are used to investigate multifractal properties for the three strongly physiologically grounded components of power spectra: low frequency (LF), very low frequency (VLF) and ultra low frequency (ULV)....

Chaotic Global Parameters Correlation with Heart Rate Variability in Obese Children

Investigation of asymmetrical fluctuations has been rigourously studied in the life sciences1-5. In general, Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA)6 enforces data of interpeak intervals to characterize irregular and often chaotic variation. This is widely accepted for Electrocardiograph (ECG) traces where the RR interval of the PQRSTsignature is appropriate. Nonetheless such algorithms may be too...

Matlab Software for Detrended Fluctuation Analysis of Heart Rate Variability

The analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) is an important tool for the assessment of the autonomic regulation of circulatory function. HRV analysis is usually performed using methods that are based on the assumption that the signal is stationary within the experiment duration, which is generally not true for long-duration signals (e.g., 24-hour Holter) or signals acquired during stress tests...

Nonlinear dynamics methods in the analysis of the heart rate variability

Purpose: We analyzed the heart rate variability (RR intervals) by means of nonlinear dynamics methods: Poincaré plot (return map), approximate entropy (ApEn) and detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). The purpose of this study was the quantitative and qualitative assessment of heart rate variability by means of these nonlinear dynamics methods. Material and methods: The Poincaré plot is a scatte...

Optimal ECG Sampling Rate for Non-Linear Heart Rate Variability

The principle difficulty with the analysis of the heart rate variability (HRV) is that heart rate dynamics are non-linear and non-stationary. Detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and correlation dimension (CD) are non-linear HRV measures to quantify fractal-like autocorrelation properties and to characterize the complex behaviour of nonlinear time series. Optimal ECG sampling rate is an importa...
