چکیده

This paper describes the development and testing of a three-dimensional computer model of a bicycle and rider. The model was developed using MADYMO and will assist in the reconstruction of bicycle crashes. In particular the model will be used to determine the rider’s pre-impact speed and kinematics during the impact. Three exemplar real-world bicycle crashes were reconstructed using a multi-body system (MBS) modelling technique. The models were set up in accordance with crash information obtained from atscene investigations, and police and witness reports of exemplar collisions. The computer crash reconstructions gave reasonable representations of the real-world crashes. The modelling identified the influence of a number of input variables, eg. pre-crash speeds, and outputs, eg. cyclist trajectory. This study is a part of a major research project examining the performance of bicycle and motorcycle helmets. The computer simulations will assist in determining the head impact velocities in real world collisions.

The potential of autonomous emergency braking systems to mitigate

This paper details part of a research program conducted to examine the potential effect of autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems on common crash types that involve a frontal collision. To accomplish this, simulations were conducted of 103 real world crashes. AEB system models with differing specifications were applied to these simulations to determine the change in impact speed that variou...

Evaluating the Impact of Socio - Economics , Land Use , Built Environment , and Road 1 Facility on Cyclist

35 With the increasing demand for sustainability, cycling is being encouraged as one of the efficient 36 active modes of transportation. However, cyclists are vulnerable to severe injuries when involved 37 in crashes which can discourage road users from cycling. Therefore, studying factors that affect 38 the safety of cyclists is important. This paper investigates the relationship between cycli...

Development of Models for Crash Prediction and Collision Estimation- A Case Study for Hyderabad City

Road traffic crash is a cause of unnatural death and occupies fifth position in the world as per WHO records. Road crashes in India are alarming in situation while road safety is professionally lacking and politically missing. Hyderabad city, the capital of newly formed Telangana State occupies sixth position in occurrence of road crashes. An attempt is made to understan...

Single-bicycle crash types and characteristics

Most research on cyclist safety is focused on bicycle motor vehicle crashes. Only a few studies address single-bicycle crashes (i.e. a fall or obstacle collision), in spite of the fact that most cyclists admitted to hospitals are single-bicycle crash victims. This study developed a categorization of single-bicycle crash types. A draft categorization was developed based on the scarce literature ...
