چکیده

The virus content of naturally occurring and experimentally induced papillomas of cottontail rabbits varies considerably. As a rule different individual papillomas on the same rabbit were found to have a similar virus content. The amount of virus usually increased as the tumors aged from 6 to 12 weeks. After 12 weeks there was no consistent pattern of change in virus con tent of papillomas, and dilution end joints of 10~3to 10~5were

Infectiousness of the virus in Shope papillomas induced or grown in the variant rabbit strain and in a resistant species.

In the great majority of cases, the pathogenicity of the Shope papilloma virus is lost after transfer from cottontail to domestic rabbits. There is adequate evidence that the virus is present in the papillomas arising in domestic rabbits, for such animals develop neutralizing and complementfixing antibodies. :Further, the intraperitoneal inoculation of extracts of noninfectious papillomas resul...

T H E Roentgen Radiation of Papilloma Virus (shope)

A benign, infectiqus, cutaneous tumor of rabbits, the Shope papilloma, is caused by a virus that upon inoculation in either domestic or cottontail rabbits induces papiUomas with great regularity (1). These tumors are not infrequently followed by cancers (2-6). On attempted recovery of the virus from these two varieties of rabbits, however, a marked difference in host reactivity becomes apparent...

Studies on the Shope Rabbit Papilloma Virus

A method has been devised to determine the location of infective Shope virus in the papillomas of cottontail rabbits. Frozen sections of the growths were burned selectively with a microcautery to destroy either the keratinized or proliferating layer and the sections were then applied directly to the sensitized epidermis of domestic rabbits. No papillomas appeared when the keratohyaline and kera...

Induction of Tumors in Domestic Rabbits with Nucleic Acid Preparations from Partially Purified Shope Papilloma Virus and from Extracts of the Papillomas of Domestic and Cottontail Rabbits

A deoxyribonucleic acid preparation which showed infectivity and tumorigenic activity in domestic rabbits was isolated from the papillomatous tissue of wild cottontail rabbits by phenolic deproteinization procedure. The activity of the preparation could be completely abolished by its exposure to a minute amount (0.02 microg/ml) of DNAase. Antisera against Shope papilloma virus did not block the...

The Location of In~.ctive Virus in Papillomas of the Cottontail Rabbit by Wilbur Fiske Noyes, Ph.d

A study, using the fluorcscent antibody method to locate the Shope papilloma virus antigen in the papillomas of thc cottontail and domestic rabbit, has shown the antigen to be prcscnt in demonstrable quantity only in the cells of the keratohyaline and kcratinized layers of the papillomas, with no detectable antigen in the thick, underlying layer of proliferating epithelial cells (I). Since anti...
