Iiicross Cutting Issues in Sfm

چکیده
Agroforestry systems (AFS) research and development (R&D) has evolved dramatically over the last 30 years in four major ways. The emphasis has shifted from the description of systems to understanding how they function; from simple mixtures of few components at field and farm levels to more complex consideration of diversity at landscape and regional levels; from researcher-designed practices to farmer-designed practices (local knowledge); and from the quantification of their productivity to the economic valuation of the environmental services they provide. As these developments have unfolded, participatory methods have been developed to involve local people more fully in the R&D process, and models and modeling paradigms have been developed to integrate results across disciplines and scales. Greater understanding of how agroforestry systems function, coupled with a consideration of social processes that influence the behavior of people whose livelihoods depend on farming and forest resources, have paved the way for the development of policy geared towards more sustainable natural resource management. The quantification and valuing of environmental services from AFS, studies of actual and potential markets for AFS products, and efforts to integrate the results in the development and testing of new policies and regulations are now at the cutting edge of AFS R&D. Examples of emerging research foci that these developments have spawned include the role of farm trees in mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change; plant genetics in relation to conservation, improvement and the domestication of new commercial components; environmental sustainability; biological pest control; and landscape planning and management.

Geometric Rescaling Algorithms for Submodular Function Minimization
We present a new class of polynomial-time algorithms for submodular function minimization (SFM), as well as a unified framework to obtain strongly polynomial SFM algorithms. Our new algorithms are based on simple iterative methods for the minimum-norm problem, such as the conditional gradient and the Fujishige-Wolfe algorithms. We exhibit two techniques to turn simple iterative methods into pol...
متن کاملIn situ Evaluation of Ruminal Degradability and Intestinal Digestibility of Sunflower Meal Compared to Soybean Meal
The aim of this study was to compare the nutritional value of sunflower meal (SFM) and soybean meal (SBM) protein by determining both its ruminal degradability and intestinal digestibility. Three non lactating Jersey cows fitted with a rumen and T-type duodenal cannulas were used to estimate rumen degradability and intestinal digestibility of SFM and SBM dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP). ...
متن کاملImpact of Acidified Sodium Chlorite and Enzyme Treatment on the Microbial Load and Energy Bioavailability of Feedstuffs
The presence of microbial load and high fiber content in various non conventional feedstuffs limit their utilization in poultry feed. In the present study, the feedstuffs were treated with acidified sodium chlorite (ASC) and its impact on the microbial load and metabolizable energy availability was assessed in the chickens. The effect of supplementation of feed grade enzyme was also evaluated...
متن کاملEffect of Different Levels of Sunflower Meal and Niacin on Performance, Biochemical Parameters, Antioxidant Status, and Egg Yolk Cholesterol of Laying Hens
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of sunflower meal (SFM) and niacin on laying hens performances, biochemical parameters, antioxidant status, and egg yolk cholesterol concentration. A total of 960, White Leghorn (Hy-Line W-36) commercial layers were randomly assigned to 12 groupsof 8 replicates with 10 hens each. Hens were allocated to diets 1 through 12 in a 3...
متن کاملEffects of Showing Forest Simulation Results on SFM Preferences of Forest Users in Central Labrador
This research aims at evaluating the effectiveness of communicating simulation results to enhance learning. This was done by testing whether showing simulation results which demonstrate the long-term effects of different management strategies in a large area changes people’s SFM preferences. Forest users in Central Labrador were shown simulation results of three alternative forest management sc...
