چکیده

The quality of ultrasound based diagnosis highly depends on the operator’s skills. Some healthcare centres may not have the required medical experts on hand when needed and therefore may not benefit from highly specialized ultrasound examinations. The aim of this project is to provide a reliable solution in order to perform expert ultrasound examinations in distant geographical areas and for the largest population possible. TER is a tele-robotic system designed and developed by a French consortium composed of universities, hospitals and industrial companies. One originality of TER is the development of a compliant slave robot actuated by muscles. This slave robot is tele-operated by an expert clinician who remotely performs the exam. In this paper, we present the architecture of TER and describe its components.

A new robot architecture for tele-echography

This paper presents a slave robot carrying an ultrasound probe for remote echographic examination. This robot is integrated in a master-slave system called robotic tele-echography (TER). The system allows an expert operator to perform a remote diagnosis from echographic data he acquires on a patient located in a distant place. The originality of this robot lies in its architecture: the cable-dr...

A one-DOF freehand haptic device for robotic tele-echography.

Tele-echography may be an interesting alternative to conventional care when the medical expert is not close to the patient to be examined. In a system for tele-echography, medical expert proprioception and gesture feelings must be preserved to synchronize the ultrasound images with the motion made by the physician. It is why we develop a master-slave system for robotic tele-echography integrati...

Safety Analysis of a Medical Robot for Tele-echography

Among many types of medical equipment, ultrasound diagnostic systems are widely used because of their convenience and safety. Performing an ultrasound examination involves good eye-hand coordination and the ability to integrate the acquired information over time and space. Some of these specialized skills may lack in some healthcare centers or for emergency situations. Tele-consultation is ther...

Safety Analysis and Integration for Robotic Systems - Application to a Medical Robot for Tele-echography

Today, as many new application areas for robotic systems emerge, safety is becoming critical. Indeed, service robots, including medical robots, share their working area or have a close interaction with humans. This paper presents a deductive method for safety analysis and integration. This method uses well-known analysis techniques for computer control systems and includes the use of a formal l...

Robot-based tele-echography: clinical evaluation of the TER system in abdominal aortic exploration

OBJECTIVE The TER system is a robot-based tele-echography system allowing remote ultrasound examination. The specialist moves a mock-up of the ultrasound probe at the master site, and the robot reproduces the movements of the real probe, which sends back ultrasound images and force feedback. This tool could be used to perform ultrasound examinations in small health care centers or from isolated...
