Some Effects of Radium Radiations on White Mice. by Kanematsu Sugiura and Gioacchino Failla

چکیده
I t is well known that radium rays, as well as x-rays, are capable of affecting the living cell. Bergoni~ and Tribondeau 1 from extensive experimental studies made the generalization 2,3 that: "Immature cells and cells in an active state of division are more sensitive to the x-rays than are cells which have already acquired their fixed adult, morphological or physiological characters. ''2 Subsequent observations have resulted in the extension of this generalization to the effect of radium radiations as well. For this reason the mice of the experiments described in the present paper were exposed to radium rays soon after birth and during the period of rapid growth.

100 Years of Radiation Research in the Footsteps of Failla.
Gioacchino Failla was initially appointed to operate the radon plant at Memorial Hospital in 1916. What to most people would have been a part-time temporary position was to him a career. He was not satisfied to simply fabricate radon seeds, he wanted to understand the physics and biology of the radiation emitted by the progeny of radium. His was not the first medical physics group in the United...

Becquerell has observed that p-rays change yellow phosphorus into red form. Ramsey* and Cameron* have shown that the radium emanation has destruotive and partial synthetic actions upon water, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and ammonia. The decomposing action of radium rays on the lecithin molecule has been observed by Schwara,4 Schaper,& and Werner.6 On the other hand, no s...

It has been estimated that 92 per cent of the total radiation emitted by radium in equilibrium with its subsequent products is given off in the form of alpha-rays. This, however, cannot be utilized when the source is enclosed in an ordinary container, because the alpha-rays are absorbed completely by even a small thickness of glass. About 3.2 per cent of the total radiation is emitted in the fo...
متن کاملThe Effects of Radium Rays on Metabolism
The view is current in the fiterature on the physiological action of radium radiations that these rays produce their effects by altering the metabolism of the tissues exposed to them. The basis for this view appears to be the observation that exposure to radium changes the rate of cell division and growth. If the term metabolism is to be used in describing the reaction of organized matter to an...

Introduction The continuous and rapid growth of telecommunication industries, along with the common application of cell phones, hasraised debates on the associated risks for humanhealth due to exposure to radiofrequency fields, caused bycell phonesorother sources, and industrial and medical applications. Accordingly, in this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of cell phone radiation on ...
