چکیده

Passive Optical Network (PON)-based Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) is a promising solution that can break through the economic barrier of traditional point-to-point solutions. Once fibers are deployed with PON-based FTTH solutions, it becomes critical how to migrate to Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM)-PON because Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) used in current PON solutions cannot exploit the huge bandwidth of the optical fibers and therefore will not be able to meet ever-increasing demands for higher bandwidth by future network applications. In this paper we review and compare the current PON-based FTTH solutions, ATM-PON (APON) and Ethernet PON (EPON), and provide a possible evolution scenario to future WDMPON. 2002 Elsevier Science Inc. Technologies for Next Generation Optical Access Network

Introduction of the GE-PON system has accelerated the use of FTTH in Japan, changing the access network from simply an Internet connection to a social infrastructure that provides services directly related to daily life, such as IP telephone service. Mitsubishi Electric has the largest share of the GE-PON market in Japan and is now working on the next generation GE-PON. The role of the NGN is b...

Broadband optical access technologies to converge towards a broadband society in Europe [Invited]

This paper provides insights on the status of broadband optical access market and technologies in Europe and on the expected trends for the next generation optical access networks. The final target for most operators, cities or any other player is of course FTTH (Fibre To The Home) deployment although we can expect intermediate steps with copper or wireless technologies. Among the two candidate...

Next Generation Optical Access Network: Standardization Outline and Key Technologies for Co-existence with Legacy Systems

Users are increasingly demanding broadband services, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is the main technology to answer these demands. Gigabit-class passive optical network (PON) systems, IEEE802.3ah GE-PON [1] or ITU-T G.984 G-PON [2] have been widely deployed and used by many network operators. The number of FTTH users in Asia is increasing and has exceeded 30 million [3]. Especially in Japan the ...

Protection route Mechanism for Survivability in FTTH-PON Network

This paper described the proposed protection route mechanism and simulation of protection mechanism model in order to achieve survivability in PON-FTTH. Due to large transport capacity achieved by the network, failures which occur cause huge losses of data and greatly influence upon a large number of users over a wide area. Therefore, the survivability of the whole network has to be examined mo...
