چکیده

In this paper, we use finite-difference time domain beam propagation method (FDTD-BPM) to analyze the pulse propagation in directional couplers. FDTD-BPM is an efficient method in numerical computation of optical passive components. The alternating-direction implicit method (ADIM) is applied to discretize the wave equation. The generalized Douglas (GD) scheme is used to the second order derivatives with respect to space coordinates. Required computer execution time and memory capacity of FDTD-BPM is less than those of conventional time domain method, FDTD. This method involves reflection and diffraction problems against well-known BPM. Design parameters can be manipulated easily by using this method. Non periodic grating-assisted directional coupler (GADC) cannot be treated by CMT or Bloch theory. Some weak periodic and non periodic GADCs can be analyzed by using time-domain FD-BPM.

Analysis of ultra short pulse propagation in optical directional coupler structures

We employ an efficient time-domain beam propagation technique to study the effect of the propagation of ultra short pulse duration on the behavior of directional coupler operation. The technique used is based on higher order non-paraxial formulation that takes into account the spatiotemporal coupling effect which is crucial for the proper propagation of ultra short optical pulses. In this work ...

Directional coupling for solitary waves in quadratic nonlinearity

The propagation of temporal solitary waves, formed in the second-order nonlinear medium, is analysed in waveguide directional couplers. The influence of the thirdorder nonlinearity on the switching effect is also presented. Recently, the great effort of nonlinear guided-wave phenomena research is focused on the cascaded second-order process which can produce relatively large intensity-dependent...

Development of Forward-wave Directional Couplers Loaded by Periodic Shunt Shorted Stubs

In this paper a new procedure for designing forward-wave directional couplers using periodic shunt short circuited stubs is proposed. A new type of cell using these stubs, which enlarge the phase difference between even- and odd modes of a uniform microstrip coupled line is introduced. Using the equivalent circuit model for even- and odd-modes of the proposed cell, the elements of the  ABCD tra...

Unique Solution of Short Pulse Propagation in Nonlinear Fiber Bragg Grating

In this study, a new numerical method is introduced to obtain the exact shape of output pulse in the chalcogenide fiber Bragg grating (FBG). A Gaussian pulse shape with 173 ps width is used as an input pulse for lunching to a 6.6 mm nonlinear FBG. Because of bistable and hysteresis nature of nonlinear FBG the time sequence of each portion of pulse is affected the shape of output pulse. So we di...

Application of Asynchronous Channels Method to the W-CDMA Systems

We evaluate new interference suppression method that utilizes the effect of asynchronous accesses in wireless telecommunication. The method is called as asynchronous channels (ACL), which can be applied to one of the present third generation standards, wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) systems. The simulation result shows that the system capacity gains up by 145% in band-unlimited...
