Aspects of Multi-Homing in IP Access Networks

چکیده
This paper presents some results of work in multihoming conducted as part of the MIND [1] project. It contains an overview of the concepts of multi-homing in relevant Internet research as well as the steps used for developing an original perspective on the problem. The uniqueness of the problem is argued to arise from the originality of connectivity scenarios in IP access networks, such as the network developed in BRAIN [2] called BRAIN Access Network – BAN, and the new wireless self-configurable and ad-hoc elements of the access network architecture designed in MIND. We examine deployment and serviceenhancement aspects of multi-homing for both the access network and the attaching terminal, and their interrelations.

Providing multi-homing support in IP access networks
Amongst the activities of the European Commission IST research project MIND [1] is extensive consideration of the multi-homing issues in IP access networks. Analysis of the various multi-homing scenarios reveals diverse aspects of multi-homing relevant to both the operations of the access network as well as the hosts connected to it. The originality of the work presented in this paper is arisin...
متن کاملEvaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures
Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of SCTP protocol for Smart Grid environment
Smart Grid Communication network will be a network of networks and with the obvious evolution and acceleration, it is crucial for its success to rely on a solid transmission protocol among its peripherals due to its real time streaming. The SCTP protocol, which was initially designed for transporting signaling messages over IP networks, is now an established in many modern applications. The mai...
متن کاملAnalysis of NAT-Based Internet Connectivity for Multi-Homed On-Demand Ad Hoc Networks
A prerequisite for a widespread and successful deployment of on-demand ad-hoc networking technology is its ability to provide easy access to the Internet. Existing solutions for Internet access are mainly based on modifying Mobile IPv4 (MIPv4). An easier approach, yet poorly documented in published material, is to implement Network Address Translation (NAT) on Internet Gateway nodes in the ad h...
متن کاملUser Transitioning Among Networks - a Measurement and Modeling Study
Physical human mobility has played an important role in the design and operation of mobile networks. Physical mobility, however, differs from mobility from a network or networkaddressing perspective. A physically mobile user may be stationary (i.e., maintain its network address) from a network point of view, while a physically stationary multi-homed or multi-device user may transition among dif...
