چکیده

The adsorption of CO on Pd/Al2O3/Ta~110! model catalysts was studied using infrared reflection adsorption spectroscopy ~IRAS! for two different Pd coverages, corresponding to 25–30 and 60–70 Å average particle sizes. Striking similarities between the IRAS data for the larger particles and Pd single crystals indicate that the particles are comprised predominantly of ^111& and ^100& facets. The isosteric heat of adsorption of CO extrapolated to zero coverage was determined to be 38.9 kcal/mol on the 60–70 Å particles. IRAS and Auger results provide evidence of CO dissociation on the smaller particles. © 1996 American Vacuum Society.

Vibrational spectroscopic studies on CO adsorption, NO adsorption CO þ NO reaction on Pd model catalysts

CO adsorption, NO adsorption and CO þ NO reaction on various Pd model catalysts have been studied using vibrational spectroscopy from ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) up to elevated pressures (B1 bar) and the kinetics of the reaction compared with the conventional high surface area Pd/g-Al2O3 catalysts. The structure sensitivity of the CO þ NO reaction on different Pd surfaces is explained using Pd(111),...

The CO+NO Reaction over Pd: A Combined Study Using Single-Crystal, Planar-Model-Supported, and High-Surface-Area Pd/Al2O3 Catalysts

A kinetics study of the CO+NO reaction over Pd has been carried out using single-crystal, model planar-supported, and conventional high-surface-area Pd/Al2O3 catalysts. A pronounced structure sensitivity is evident that results in a rate enhancement over the Pd(111) single crystal relative to the more open (100) and (110) faces, and for larger supported particles relative to smaller ones. Tempe...

CO + O2 and CO + NO Reactions over Pd/Al2O3 Catalysts

The kinetics of the CO + NO and CO + O2 reactions have been studied over several different Pd/Al2O3 powder catalysts covering a wide range of average Pd particle sizes. The structure-insensitive nature of the CO + O2 reaction over Pd has been exploited to determine the relative dispersions in several Pd/Al2O3 powder catalysts by measuring the rate of that reaction and normalizing against surfac...

Adsorption and Reaction of CO on (Pd–)Al2O3 and (Pd–)ZrO2: Vibrational Spectroscopy of Carbonate Formation

γ-Alumina is widely used as an oxide support in catalysis, and palladium nanoparticles supported by alumina represent one of the most frequently used dispersed metals. The surface sites of the catalysts are often probed via FTIR spectroscopy upon CO adsorption, which may result in the formation of surface carbonate species. We have examined this process in detail utilizing FTIR to monitor carbo...

RHEED AND TPD STUDIES OF THE EFFECT OF PARTICLE SIZE ON CO DESORPTION FROM Al2O3 SUPPORTED Pd AND Rh MODEL CATALYSTS

Transition metals in form of small supported particles are frequently used in heterogeneous catalytic reactions. One point of actual interest concerns the reactivity of low co-ordination sites characteristic for particle surface. The non continuous epitaxial layers of Pd and Rh were grown on insulator substrates (Al2O3) by molecular beam epitaxy. The reflection high energy electron diffraction ...
