Reconstructing azimuthal distributions in nucleus–nucleus collisions
نویسنده
چکیده
Azimuthal distributions of particles produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions are measured with respect to an estimated reaction plane which, because of finite multiplicity fluctuations, differs in general from the true reaction plane. It follows that the measured distributions do not coincide with the true ones. I propose a general method of reconstructing the Fourier coefficients of the true azimuthal distributions from the measured ones. This analysis suggests that the Fourier coefficients are the best observables to characterize azimuthal anisotropies because, unlike other observables such as the in-plane anisotropy ratio or the squeeze-out ratio, they can be reconstructed accurately. ∗ Member of CNRS. † Laboratoire de la Direction des Sciences de la Matière du Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique.

متن کاملAzimuthal Asymmetry of Prompt Photons in Nuclear Collisions
The azimuthal elliptic asymmetry v2 observed in heavy ion collisions, is usually associated with properties of the medium created in the final state. We compute the azimuthal asymmetry which is due to multiple interactions of partons at the initial stage of nuclear collisions, and which is also present in pA collisions. In our approach the main source of azimuthal asymmetry is the combination o...
متن کاملCollective Flow and Multiparticle Azimuthal Correlations
The measurement of azimuthal distributions in nucleus-nucleus collisions relies upon the assumption that azimuthal correlations between particles result solely from their correlation with the reaction plane (i.e. flow). We show that at SPS energies, the ansatz is no longer valid, and two-particle correlations due to momentum conservation, final state interactions or resonance decays become of t...
متن کاملTwo particle rapidity, transverse momentum, and azimuthal correlations in relativistic nuclear collisions and transverse radial expansion
At the very first stage of an ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collision new particles are produced in individual nucleon-nucleon collisions. In the transverse plane, all particles from a single NN collision are initially located at the same position. The subsequent transverse radial expansion of the system creates strong position-momentum correlations and leads to characteristic rapidity, tr...
متن کاملRapidity and centrality dependence of azimuthal correlations in Deuteron-Gold collisions at RHIC
We calculate azimuthal correlations in dAu collisions at different rapidities and centralities and argue that experimentally observed depletion of the back-to-back pick can be quantitatively explained by gluon saturation in the Color Glass Condensate of the Gold nucleus.
