Asymptotic optimality of shortest path routing algorithms

چکیده
Many communicat ion networks use adaptive shortest path routing. By this we mean that each network link is periodically assigned a length that depends on its congestion level during the preceding period, and all traffic generated between length updates is routed along a shortest path corresponding to the latest link lengths. We show that in certain situations, typical of networks involving a large number of small users and utilizing virtual circuits, this routing method performs optimally in an asymptotic sense. In other cases, shortest path routing can be far from optimal.

Routing Traffic with Quality-of-Service Guarantees in Integrated Services Networks
Transmission of interactive multimedia streams requires stringent Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantees in delay, delay jitter, and bandwidth, which imposes strict resource constraints on the paths being used. While the general problem of finding a path that meets multiple QoS constraints is NP complete, we have shown that such a path can be found in polynomial time if the network service discipl...
متن کاملRobot Path Planning Using Cellular Automata and Genetic Algorithm
In path planning Problems, a complete description of robot geometry, environments and obstacle are presented; the main goal is routing, moving from source to destination, without dealing with obstacles. Also, the existing route should be optimal. The definition of optimality in routing is the same as minimizing the route, in other words, the best possible route to reach the destination. In most...
متن کاملInteger Programming Model for the Network Design Problem with Facility Dependent Shortest Path Routing
We consider a network design problem which has shortest routing restriction based on the values determined by the installed facilities on each arc. In conventional multicommodity network design problem, a commodity can be routed through any possible path when the capacity is available. But, we consider a problem in which the commodity between two nodes must be routed on a path which has shortes...
متن کاملA Multi-path Hybrid Routing Algorithm in Network Routing
The shortest path tree construction is essential in network routing, and the Dijkstra algorithm, which is a static routing algorithm, is widely used. When some links in a network have new weights, dynamic routing algorithms are more efficient than static routing algorithms. This is because the dynamic routing algorithms reduce redundancy by recomputing only the affected sections of the network ...
متن کاملOptimum Routing in the Urban Transportation Network by Integrating Genetic Meta-heuristic (GA) and Tabu Search (Ts) Algorithms
Urban transportation is one of the most important issues of urban life especially in big cities. Urban development, and subsequently the increase of routes and communications, make the role of transportation science more pronounced. The shortest path problem in a network is one of the most basic network analysis issues. In fact, finding answers to this question is necessity for higher level ana...
