Self-organisation for Survival in Complex Computer Architectures
نویسنده
چکیده
This chapter steps back from specific self-organisational architectural solutions to consider what self-organisation means in the context of complex systems. Drawing on insights in complexity and selforganisation, the chapter explores how the natural propensity of complex systems (such as the mammalian immune system) to self-organise could be exploited as a mechanism for adaptation in complex computer architectures. Drawing on experience of immune-inspired fault-tolerant swarm robotics, the chapter speculates on how complex systems such as global information systems could adopt self-organised survivability.

Systemic Computation,
Natural systems provide unique examples of computation in a form very different from contemporary computer architectures. Biology also demonstrates capabilities such as adaptation, fault-tolerance, self-repair and self-organisation that are becoming increasingly desirable for our technology. Such computational properties are of great value for the increasingly complex systems our technologies r...

Natural systems provide unique examples of computation in a form very different from contemporary computer architectures. Biology also demonstrates capabilities such as adaptation, self-repair and self-organisation that are becoming increasingly desirable for our technology. To address these issues a new computer model and architecture with natural characteristics is presented. Systemic computa...
متن کاملThe Paradox of Intervening in Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
This commentary addresses two points raised by Kitson and colleagues’ article. First, increasing interest in applying the Complexity Theory lens in healthcare needs further systematic work to create some commonality between concepts used. Second, our need to adopt a better understanding of how these systems organise so we can change the systems overall behaviour, creates a paradox. We seek to m...
متن کاملSelf-Organisation in the Context of QoS Management in Service Oriented Architectures
This paper describes the need for a self-organising Service Level Management (SLM) in future Service Oriented Architectures (SOA). Due to the complexity of SOA environments, self-management and self-organisation are fundamental requirements for an SLM architecture in this context. The SLM architecture presented consists of two types of autonomic managers. Autonomic managers on the service layer...
متن کاملA Routing-Aware Simulated Annealing-based Placement Method in Wireless Network on Chips
Wireless network on chip (WiNoC) is one of the promising on-chip interconnection networks for on-chip system architectures. In addition to wired links, these architectures also use wireless links. Using these wireless links makes packets reach destination nodes faster and with less power consumption. These wireless links are provided by wireless interfaces in wireless routers. The WiNoC archite...
