Hemodynamic effects of the carotid abnormalities courses by MRI and ultrasound

چکیده
Methods 50 healthy volunteers (control group) and 43 patients with carotid abnormalities (CAs) were examined on 1.5T MR-scanner using routine MR protocol and quantitative MR angiography (qMRA) for estimate of the arterial blood flow velocity and cross sectional area of the ICA. We observed the cross sectional area and the values of peak velocity, mean velocity, flux velocity of arterial blood flow at one cardiac cycle at cervical and intracranial segments of the ICA (Fig. 1). 20 volunteers were performed US for the assessment of the vascular wall and peak systolic velocity (PSV) values of the arterial blood at the portion between common carotid artery (CCA) bifurcation and ICA. Statistical analysis was performed by mean value and confidence interval (for p=0.05). Student’s paired t-test was used to indicate significant differences between mean values at the patient and control groups.

Evaluation of the relationship between hepatic and cardiac iron overload with MRI T2* and carotid intima media thickness with Doppler ultrasound in beta thalassemia major patients
Background: Iron overload is caused early progression of atherosclerosis in beta thalassemia patients due to regular repeated blood transfusion. MRI T2* is a gold standard non-invasive method for detecting hepatic and cardiac iron overload. The aim of this study was the comparison of carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in the patients and healthy control groups with Doppler ultrasound for ear...
متن کاملA Lumped Parameter Method to Calculate the Effect of Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion on Anterior Cerebral Artery Pressure Waveform
Background and Objective: Numerical modeling of biological structures would be very helpful tool to analyze hundreds of human body phenomena and also diseases diagnosis. One physiologic phenomenon is blood circulatory system and heart hemodynamic performance that can be simulated by utilizing lumped method. In this study, we can predict hemodynamic behavior of one artery of circulatory system (...
متن کاملMeasuring the Nitroglycerine-Induced Vasodilation in Carotid Arteries
Introduction: Nitroglycerin is a fast-acting drug that rapidly dilates coronary arteries and thus increases blood flow to these vessels, and increases the blood flow through the lateral vessels to low blood areas. It also reduces both end diastolic pressure and volume of the left ventricular. However, the effect of nitroglycerin on the circulation hemodynamic is not known. Caro...
متن کاملAutomatic measurement of instantaneous changes in the walls of carotid artery with sequential ultrasound images
Introduction: This study presents a computerized analyzing method for detection of instantaneous changes of far and near walls of the common carotid artery in sequential ultrasound images by applying the maximum gradient algorithm. Maximum gradient was modified and some characteristics were added from the dynamic programming algorithm for our applications. Methods: The algorithm was evaluat...
متن کاملCarotid geometry reconstruction: a comparison between MRI and ultrasound.
Image-based Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become a popular tool for the prediction of in vivo flow profiles and hemodynamic wall parameters. Currently, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is most widely used for in vivo geometry acquisition. For superficial arteries such as the carotids and the femoral artery, three-dimensional (3-D) extravascular ultrasound (3-DUS) could be a cost-effect...
