WDM Split Cross-connects and 3-stage Clos Networks

چکیده
In this paper, we first show that a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) split crossconnect is strictly, wide-sense, or rearrangeably non-blocking if and only if a corresponding 3-stage Clos network is strictly, wide-sense or rearrangeably non-blocking. This observation implies known results on strictly non-blocking WDM split cross-connects and gives rise to new results on wide-sense and rearrangeably non-blocking WDM split cross-connects. We next introduce a routing algorithm for the Clos networks which show that there are widesense non-blocking Clos networks which are not strictly non-blocking. Hence, the same holds for the WDM split cross-connects. We also consider another demand model for WDM split cross-connects and present associated results. Routing algorithms for WDM split crossconnects could be viewed as on-line and off-line algorithms to edge-color a class of bipartite multi-graphs.

Solid-Connection Rearrangeability for 3-Stage Clos Networks in the Multirate Environment
In this paper, we study one aspect of the rearrangeably nonblocking (RNB) operation of generalized, multirate, 3-stage Clos switching networks. In order to achieve RNB operation in a Clos network, we must find a way to route any given traffic load through the middle-stage switches, possibly rearranging existing connections. The model under consideration assumes that a single connection (or call...

The performance of a parallel computer greatly depends upon how, the different processors are capable of exchanging data. This, thus require an arbitrary permutation (nonblocking) to be done by the connection networks. A nonblocking network is capable of providing N parallel paths between a pair of nodes forming any arbitrary permutation. In this paper, we present three different simple nonbloc...

We consider the problem of minimizing the number of wavelength interchangers in the design of wide-sense nonblocking crossconnects for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. The problem is modeled as a graph theoretic problem that we call dynamic edge coloring. In dynamic edge coloring the nodes of a graph are fixed but edges appear and disappear, and must be colored at the tim...
متن کاملOn Multicast Rearrangeable 3-stage Clos Networks Without First-Stage Fan-Out
For the multicast rearrangeable 3-stage Clos networks where input crossbars do not have fan-out capability, Kirkpatrick, Klawe, and Pippenger gave a sufficient condition and also a necessary condition which differs from the sufficient condition by a factor of 2. In this paper, we first tighten their conditions. Then we propose a new necessary condition based on the affine plane such that the ne...

Next-generation wavelength routing optical networks requiring optical cross connects (OXC) in the network have the ability to direct optical signals from any input interface to suitable output interfaces by configuring their internal embedded optical switch matrices. Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) switches are regarded as the most promising technology to achieve such functionality. We co...
