Altitudinal Variation in Density of Mosquito, Thiruvannamalai Temple, A Hilly Area Srivilliputturtaluk

چکیده
Now a days the increase in human population, irrigation of crops, flooded rice fields, unplanned sanitation, urban development, the migration of bird, rainfall, temperature, humidity and dry arid condition and the changing life style of the population in cities, urban, sub-urban and rural areas of our nation. Altitudinal variation of mosquitoes was studied by collecting the mosquitoes using human bait sampling method during September 2009 to February 2010 from four habitats such as residential area, low altitude (78ft), transition altitude (156ft) and high altitude (234ft) of a rural ecosystem at Venkateshwarapuram village near Srivilliputtur. The density of mosquitoes was more in moderate rainy season than the acute rainy and winter seasons. Among the eight species recorded in the study area, Culex quinquefasciatus exhibited highest density and followed by Culex pseudovishnui and Anopheles subpictus. The other species showed moderate or less density. Variation in the density of mosquitoes was also observed. The density of mosquitoes was higher during moderate rainy season and winter season followed by acute rainy season.

Altitudinal and Seasonal Variation in Drosophila Species on Mount Japfu of Nagaland, a Sub-Himalayan Hilly State of India
Drosophila (L.) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) has richly contributed to the understanding of patterns of inheritance, variation, speciation, and evolution. Drosophila, with its cosmopolitan nature and complexities in species compositions, is an excellent model for studying the eco-distributional patterns of various species. This study analyzed the altitudinal and seasonal variation in Drosophila spe...
متن کاملAltitudinal Genetic Variations Among the Fagus orientalis Lipsky Populations in Iran
Nuclear simple sequence repeats (nSSRs), together with 16 different enzyme loci, were used to analyzegenetic diversity and differentiation among beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) populations along two altitudinalgradients in Hyrcanian forests of Iran. Both enzymes and nSSR analyses revealed a high level ofgenetic diversity in natural populations of F. orientalis. The genetic div...

In the present study, models were developed to estimate the altitudinal variation in secondary metabolite contents of Hypericum orientale growing wild in “Güldağı” mountain, Turkey. Aerial parts of flowering 30 individuals were collected at six different altitudes (500, 1150, 1650, 2100, 2720 and 3250 m). Actual secondary metabolite contents of plants were measured by High Performance Liquid Ch...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Mosquito fauna diversity in mountainous areas of Garhwal region was studied during November 2000 to October 2002 to correlate the altitudinal vegetation and distribution of mosquitoes. METHODS Adult mosquitoes and mosquito immatures were collected using WHO methods and identified using standard keys and catalogues. Altitude of mosquito habitat was measured using portab...
متن کاملPopulation dynamics of Armigeres subalbatus (Diptera: Culicidae) across a temperate altitudinal gradient.
Understanding the impacts of weather fluctuations, and environmental gradients, on the abundance of vectors is fundamental to grasp the dynamic nature of the entomological risk for disease transmission. The mosquito Armigeres subalbatus (Coquillet) is a common vector of filariasis. Nevertheless, its population dynamics have been relatively poorly studied. Here, we present results from a season ...
