Genetic Management of Outbred Laboratory Rodent Populations

چکیده

This document describes the Gold Standard populations of outbred laboratory animals that have been developed at Charles River Laboratories. Using modern techniques of population and molecular genetics, the Gold Standard populations are carefully managed in such a way as to preserve genetic variation and to provide a reliable source of outbred animals for experimental use. The Gold Standard animals are preferred for a number of applications, particularly those in which genetic variation in the response may be an issue. In the Gold Standard outbred populations, individual animals are genetically diverse, much like people are genetically diverse, so no two animals are genetically exactly alike.

Genetic Variation and Population Substructure in Outbred CD-1 Mice: Implications for Genome-Wide Association Studies

Outbred laboratory mouse populations are widely used in biomedical research. Since little is known about the degree of genetic variation present in these populations, they are not widely used for genetic studies. Commercially available outbred CD-1 mice are drawn from an extremely large breeding population that has accumulated many recombination events, which is desirable for genome-wide associ...

Using two retrotransposon-based marker systems (SRAP and REMAP) for genetic diversity analysis of Moroccan Argan tree

The Argania is an endemic genetic resource in Morocco holding an important ecological and socio-economical benefit. However, overgrazing and overharvesting lead to a serious downturn in the number of trees. To characterize genetic diversity within and among 24 populations, represented by 240 argan trees, four combinations of SRAP primers and eight combinations of REMAP primers were used. A tota...

MOUSE GENETIC RESOURCES Genome-Wide Association Mapping of Quantitative Traits in Outbred Mice

Recent developments in high-density genotyping and statistical analysis methods that have enabled genome-wide association studies in humans can also be applied to outbred mouse populations. Increased recombination in outbred populations is expected to provide greater mapping resolution than traditional inbred line crosses, improving prospects for identifying the causal genes. We carried out gen...

Differences in Genetic Structure among Fagus orientalis Lipsky (Oriental Beech) Populations under Different Management Conditions: Implications for in situ Gene Conservation

Resource sustainability requires a thorough understanding of the influence of forest management programs on the conservation of genetic diversity in tree populations. To observe how differences in forest management affect the genetic structure of Fagus orientalis Lipsky (oriental beech), we evaluated thirteen beech sites across Hyrcanian forests, based on six microsatellite loci. Significant di...

Genetic Differentiation of Draa Indigenous Breed and Relationships with Other Goat Populations Assessed by Microsatellite DNA Markers

Moroccan goats are characterized by the presence of different populations identified only based on their phenotypes. The objectives of this study were to assess the genetic differentiation of the Draa goat breed and to analyze its genetic structure and its relationships with other local populations using 12 microsatellite markers. The screening was done in South Eastern and Southern Morocco on ...
