چکیده

In this paper, starting from the virtual model of the human knee joint, and existent knee prosthesis, often used in total knee arthroplasty, we developed 3D models of all prosthetic components. The study investigates the effects of antero-posterior tibial slope on contact stresses in all components of total knee prosthesis using finite element analysis. Using AnsysWorkbench15.07 software, the stress and displacements maps are obtained for healthy knee, for osteoarthritic knee and for knee-prosthesis assemblies. Two loading force are considered: 800N and 2400N. For each prosthesis-knee assembly, two cases were considered: an antero-posterior slope of 0 0 and 5 0 respectively. The results, confirmed by clinical observations, suggest that the antero-posterior tibial slope of 5 0 is favourable.

Measurement of Posterior Tibial Slope Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Background: Posterior tibial slope (PTS) is an important factor in the knee joint biomechanics and one of the bone features, which leads to knee joint stability. Posterior tibial slope affects flexion gap, knee joint stability and posterior femoral rollback that are related to wide range of knee motion. During high tibial osteotomy and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgery, proper retaining the...

Increase in the Tibial Slope Reduces Wear after Medial Unicompartmental Fixed-Bearing Arthroplasty of the Knee

Introduction. Unicompartmental arthroplasty of the knee in patients with isolated medial osteoarthritis gives good results, but survival is inferior to that of total knee prosthesis. Knees may fail because positioning of the prosthesis has been suboptimal. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the tibial slope on the rate of wear of a medial fixed-bearing unicompartmental kn...

The effect of implant position on bone strain following lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty

OBJECTIVES Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a demanding procedure, with tibial component subsidence or pain from high tibial strain being potential causes of revision. The optimal position in terms of load transfer has not been documented for lateral UKA. Our aim was to determine the effect of tibial component position on proximal tibial strain. METHODS A total of 16 composite tibi...

In vitro investigation of knee joint kinematics following cruciate retaining versus cruciate sacrificing total knee arthroplasty.

The aim of this biomechanical study was to investigate knee joint kinematics following total knee arthroplasty. We compared eight congruent posterior cruciate ligament retaining and four ultracongruent cruciate sacrificing Natural Knee prostheses to the untreated human cadaveric knee joint. A six-degree-of-freedom testing device was used to evaluate knee joint kinematics with a load of 300 Newt...

Analysis of the Geometry of the Distal Femur and Proximal Tibia in the Osteoarthritic Knee: A 3D Reconstruction CT Scan Based Study of 449 Cases

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the geometry of the distal femur and the proximal tibia in the osteoarthritic knee using 3D reconstructive CT scan imaging. Methods: 449 patients with knee osteoarthritis were treated surgically in our center with patient-specific technology total knee arthroplasty. Preoperatively, all the patients underwent a CT scan according to a standard ...
