Measuring the 3-D Flow of the Lowell Glacier with InSAR

چکیده
| In this paper, we use single and dualpass satellite-based interferometric radar to measure the ow magnitude of a large alpine glacier. Since the radar measurements alone are not su cient to resolve the 3-D ow direction of the glacier, several ow directions assumptions are made, and checked for mutual consistency. The assumptions that the horizontal component of ow is parallel to the medial moraine, and that the ow is parallel to the glacier surface give the best results over most of the glacier. With one or both of these assumptions, we are able to measure the glacier ow along its centreline to an accuracy of approximately 3 cm/day.

Estimation the Movement of Glacier in the West of China with ALOS PALSAR and PRISM Data
Glaciers are sensitive indicators of climate fluctuations. The effects of climate warming are for instance evident in the continuous retreat of glaciers. In the paper, the movement of the Dongkemadi Glacier in the Qinhai-Tibetan Plateau and the Keqicar Baxi glacier motion in the Tianshan Mountains of western China are measured using two-pass differential synthetic aperture radar interferometry ...
متن کاملValidation of alpine glacier velocity measurements using ERS Tandem-Mission SAR data
Five ascending and four descending ERS-1/2 tandem-mode synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) data pairs with useful scene coherence are used to measure the surface flow field of an alpine glacier in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The topographic component of the interferogram phase is calculated by using a digital elevation model (DEM) of the terrain and precise orbit data to rec...
متن کاملEarly melt season velocity fields of Langjökull and Hofsjökull, central Iceland
We infer the horizontal velocity fields of the ice caps Langjökull and Hofsjökull, central Iceland, using repeat-pass interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR). NASA’s uninhabited aerial vehicle synthetic aperture radar (UAVSAR) acquired airborne InSAR data from multiple vantage points during the early melt season in June 2012. We develop a Bayesian approach for inferring threedimensiona...
متن کاملEstimation of Alpine Permafrost Surface Deformation Using InSAR Data
The detection of active rock glacier and the quantification of the observed surface movement as well as its temporal change using the D-InSAR method are presented. An average deformation rate of -7.7 mm/35 days in the radar lineof-sight, in the summer of 1992, was estimated. Whereas, the corresponding geodetic measurement, vertical component of 3D flow velocity, was about –8.0 mm/35 days. Addit...
متن کاملDual-Pol X-Band Pol-InSAR Time Series of a Greenland Outlet Glacier
The Helheim glacier in south-east Greenland faces a retreat and thinning like many other Greenland outlet glaciers, but showed two particular huge and fast retreats between 2000 and 2005, coinciding with an acceleration of glacier flow [1]. The estimation of glacier retreat and thinning are established procedures based on a variety of remote sensing techniques, e.g. SAR interferometry (InSAR) [...
