The effect of radiographic vertebral body and intervertebral disc wedging on curve progression in idiopathic scoliosis

چکیده
Methods Baseline and 30-year follow-up x-rays from 56 AIS patients were evaluated. Wedging measurements included apical vertebral body height ratios (VBHR), apical vertebral body angles (VBA) and apical intervertebral disc wedging angles (IVDA). Intraand inter-rater reliability was estimated using 2 readers and a subset of 20 curves. Multivariate regression estimated the contribution of wedging to prediction of curve progression.

Differential wedging of vertebral body and intervertebral disc in thoracic and lumbar spine in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis – A cross sectional study in 150 patients
BACKGROUND Hueter-Volkmann's law regarding growth modulation suggests that increased pressure on the end plate of bone retards the growth (Hueter) and conversely, reduced pressure accelerates the growth (Volkmann). Literature described the same principle in Rat-tail model. Human spine and its deformity i.e. scoliosis has also same kind of pattern during the growth period which causes wedging in...
متن کاملDisc and vertebral wedging in patients with progressive scoliosis.
A retrospective longitudinal radiographic study of patients with progressive scoliosis was conducted to determine the relative amount of wedging between vertebrae and discs as a function of progression of the scoliosis curve, cause of the scoliosis, and anatomic curve region. Posteroanterior radiographs of 27 patients with idiopathic scoliosis and of 17 patients with scoliosis associated with c...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Vertebral Wedging in Mild and Moderate Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
BACKGROUND Vertebral wedging is associated with spinal deformity progression in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Reporting frontal and sagittal wedging separately could be misleading since these are projected values of a single three-dimensional deformation of the vertebral body. The objectives of this study were to determine if three-dimensional vertebral body wedging is present in mild scolio...

There is no generally accepted scientific theory for the causes of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). As part of its mission to widen understanding of scoliosis etiology, the International Federated Body on Scoliosis Etiology (IBSE) introduced the electronic focus group (EFG) as a means of increasing debate on knowledge of important topics. This has been designated as an on-line Delphi disc...

STUDY DESIGN Experimental study of a localized device for the control of the vertebral growth using an immature porcine model. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to experimentally evaluate a localized device acting on the epiphyseal growth plates without bridging the intervertebral disc of immature hybrid pigs over 3 months of growth. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Based on current published li...
