Flying Wing versus Conventional Transport Airplane: the 300 Seat Case
نویسنده
چکیده
Unconventional aircraft are being studied by the aeronautical engineering community with accelerated interest and effort to improve economic efficiency and to overcome operational and infrastructure-related problems associated to the increasing size of transport airplanes. The objective of the research reported here is to assess the technical feasibility and operational efficiency of a medium size, wingspan-limited flying wing in C layout; a configuration which has many advantages at easily achievable technology levels. To this end, the conceptual design process of a 300 seat C-wing has been done, completed with a comparison of performance and operational issues with last generation twins. The results are greatly encouraging and predict 10-20 percent increase in transport productivity efficiency, without the burden of new or aggravated safety or operational problems.

Variations of the aerodynamic parameters, mass and moments of inertia, and the center of gravity due to damage are all considered in the nonlinear mathematical modeling. The proposed discrete-time nonlinear MRAC algorithm applies the recursive least square (RLS) algorithm as a parameter estimator as well as the error between the real ...
متن کاملFatigue Life Assessment of Composite Airplane Wing Subjected to Variable Mechanical and Thermal Loads
The purpose of this paper is to estimate the fatigue life of an airplane wing with laminated composite skin, subjected to variable mechanical and thermal loads. To achieve this aim,at first, the three-dimensional model of airplane wing was drawn in CATIA software. Then, by transferring the model to the ABAQUS software, the finite element model of the wing wascreated. H...
متن کاملA Virtual Airplane for Fear of Flying Therapy
Fear of flying is a serious problem that affects millions of individuals. Exposure therapy for fear of flying is an effective therapy technique. However, exposure therapy is also expensive, logistically difficult to arrange, and presents significant problems of patient confidentiality and potential embarrassment. We have developed a virtual airplane for use in fear of flying therapy. Using the ...
متن کاملSmall Aircraft Transportation Systems
INTRODUCTION Air transportation systems are based on a variety of vehicles including fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. The most diverse and developed category remains the fixed wing aircraft with sizes ranging from single seat to 555 seats in the case of the Airbus A380. This size characterization relates to passenger vehicles. However, cargo aircraft have similar range of sizes. The largest...
متن کاملDynamic Model and Control of a New Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle with Tilt-Wing Mechanism
Abstract—In this work a dynamic model of a new quadrotor aerial vehicle that is equipped with a tilt-wing mechanism is presented. The vehicle has the capabilities of vertical take-off/landing (VTOL) like a helicopter and flying horizontal like an airplane. Dynamic model of the vehicle is derived both for vertical and horizontal flight modes using Newton-Euler formulation. An LQR controller for ...
