Propolis from Chilean matorral hives.
Viscidone (0.5%), vanillin, 3',4'-(methylendioxy)acetophenone, 3-ethoxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde, cinnamic acid, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxymethyl ester were isolated from propolis of hives from Cuncumen. This is the first report on propolis composition of an arid and a Mediterranean type climate area.
متن کاملPostfire responses of the woody flora of Central Chile: Insights from a germination experiment
Fire is a selective agent shaping plant traits and community assembly in fire-prone ecosystems. However, in ecosystems with no fire history, it can be a cause of land degradation when it is suddenly introduced by humans, as plant species may not be able to respond to such novel disturbance. Unlike other Mediterranean-type ecosystems (MTE) of the world, natural fires have not been frequent durin...
متن کاملA GC/MS Study of the Propolis Phenolic Constituents
Propolis is a resinous hive product Kv bees. The versatile biological activities of propolis, such as its antibacterial, antiviral, fungicidal, anti ulcer, immunostimulating, hypotensive and cytosta tic properties, as well as its successful clinical applica tions [1 — 3] have created an increasing interest in its chemical composition. The last appears to be very complex — the bees collect pr...
متن کاملLeaf traits in Chilean matorral: sclerophylly within, among, and beyond matorral, and its environmental determinants
Studies of leaf traits often focus on tradeoffs between growth and resource conservation, but little is known about variation in the mechanical traits that influence resource conservation. This study investigates how leaf mechanical traits vary across matorral vegetation in central Chile, how they correlate with environmental factors, and how these trends compare at a broader geographic scale. ...
متن کاملChemical and botanical characterization of Chilean propolis and biological activity on cariogenic bacteria Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus
Propolis is a non-toxic natural substance with multiple pharmacological properties including anti-cancer, antioxidant, fungicidal, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory among others. The aim of this study was to determine the chemical and botanical characterization of Chilean propolis samples and to evaluate their biological activity against the cariogenic bacteria Streptococcus mutan...
