چکیده

Evaluating software is a complex decision aiding activity which requires the recognition of the problem situation in which the evaluation is requested, the establishment of a set of problem formulations which represent the client’s “problems” and, for a specific problem formulation, the construction of an evaluation model which indicates how such an evaluation will be performed. In this paper the first two aspects of such a process are discussed, providing a partial list of software evaluation problem situations, how they are characterised and what problem formulations they allow. Moreover two real case studies, concerning software evaluation, are briefly presented and discussed under this point of view (how the problem is perceived and formulated).

Evaluation of the Applicability of CM3: Emergency Problem Management within the Industry

Software has become one of the main villains of many organizational problems, emergencies and crises. Despite this, there is only one process model defining how to manage emergency software problems. It is CM: Emergency Problem Management. In this paper, we evaluate the applicability of the CM3: Emergency Problem Management model within five companies. Our results show that the model correctly ...

Using Case-Based Methods in an Experimental Design: A Mixed-Method Approach for Evaluating Collaboration-Intensive Software Modeling Approaches

Experiments are suitable for studying emerging approaches at Universities by using students as subjects. We identify a problem that the existing experimental designs are not well suited for studying qualitative properties and human factors which cannot be controlled and studied in isolation. On the other hand case studies are well suited for studying those situations. However, case studies are ...

Using the Moles and Mini Moles Software System to Bridge the Gap between Indoor and Outdoor Learning

The present paper focuses on bridging the gap between inside and outside classroom learning experiences. We present Moles and Mini Moles, a learning software tools system specifically designed to serve this purpose. Secondary school students use these tools for hypothesizing, gathering, and transferring information learned within the classroom and testing their knowledge and recording their exp...

Performance of software agents in non-transferable payoff group buying

Software agents can be useful in forming buyers’ groups since humans have considerable difficulties in finding Pareto-optimal deals (no buyer can be better without another being worse) in negotiation situations. What are the computational and economical performances of software agents for a group buying problem? We have developed a negotiation protocol for software agents which we have evaluate...

A robust optimization approach to the next release problem in the presence of uncertainties

The next release problem is a significant task in the iterative and incremental software development model, involving the selection of a set of requirements to be included in the next software release. Given the dynamic environment in which modern software development occurs, the uncertainties related to the input variables of this problem should be taken into account. In this context, this pap...
