چکیده

Background The mitral apparatus contains two myocardial components papillary muscles and the adjacent left ventricular (LV) wall. Delayed enhancement CMR (DE-CMR) enables in-vivo study of potential contributions of LV wall and papillary muscle infarction (PMI) to MR. This study examined the relative impact of papillary muscle and LV wall infarction on mitral regurgitation (MR) following ST elevation MI (STEMI).

اثر PercutaneousCoronary Intervention Elective بر بهبودی نارسایی ایسکمیک میترال

Introdution: Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) remains one of the most complex and unresolved aspects of ischemic heart disease that the impact of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on improvement of intensity of ischemic mitral regurgitation is not well clarified. Patients with coronary artery diseases and ischemic mitral regurgitation have a worse prognosis than the patients with coro...

Sub-valvular repair of ischemic mitral regurgitation in a patient with severe tethering of mitral leaflets.

A 61-year-old male presented with a six-month history of dyspnea [New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class IIIIV]. He had a myocardial infarction three years previously. His comorbidities included claudication due to a right iliac artery stenosis. His transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TOE) echocardiograms diagnosed ischemic mitral regurgitation (MR): the left ventricular (LV) end-diastoli...

CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE Mitral valve prolapse in short - term experimental coronary occlusion : a possible mechanism of ischemic mitral regurgitation

Experimental coronary occlusions were carried out in 12 closed-chest dogs to investigate the functional anatomic characteristics of the mitral valve complex during acute myocardial ischemia. Two-dimensional echocardiography was used to assess left ventricular function, the mitral valve complex, and left atrial size. Presence of mitral regurgitation was assessed by left ventricular contrast echo...

Combined papillary muscle and left ventricular wall dysfunction as a cause of mitral regurgitation. An experimental study.

Papillary muscle infarction was produced in 16 mongrel dogs by placing sutures around the base of one of the papillary muscles. In addition, patchy infarction of the adjacent left ventricular wall was produced by placing an Ameroid constrictor around the appropriate coronary artery. Mitral insufficiency developed in 14 of these animals; it was severe in four and mild to moderate in ten. Mitral ...

Solving the Puzzle of Chronic Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation

Chronic ischemic mitral regurgitation is a prevalent problem among patients following a myocardial infarction. Until recently, the pathophysiology was poorly understood, resulting in surgical strategies with suboptimal results and limited durability. The surgical approach has evolved from revascularization alone to an additional mitral valve procedure, replacement, or repair. When the valve was...
