چکیده

The equation of radiative energy balance in homogeneous We let L denote the mean horizontal photon path length in plane-parallel cloud accounts for the photon transport in clouds. Major contributors to E(x,y) are those sections of vertical direction alone. From this equation, we can evaluate pixel located near its sides and having lengths on the order of absorption as a difference of the net radiative fluxes measured L. As pixel size grows, F )x)y increases linearly in each of on the cloud top and bottom. Real clouds exhibit extreme )x and )y, whereas the horizontal transport enhances for horizontal variability of their optical and, hence, radiative )x,)y# L and is almost unchanged when )x, )y > L. For this properties. So, the radiative energy balance equation for reason, at )x, )y >> L, E(x,y) << 1 and equation (1) thus inhomogeneous clouds includes extra term to describe the net becomes energy transport in the horizontal directions.

The influence of horizontal inhomogeneity on radiative characteristics of clouds: an asymptotic case study

The paper is devoted to analytical studies of the influence of horizontal inhomogeneity of clouds on their radiative properties in the framework of the asymptotic radiative transfer theory. It is assumed that a cloud field is optically thick. Thus, only overcast cloud fields are under consideration. The study is based on the independent column approximation, assuming Gamma distribution of cloud...

Measurement of solar ultraviolet radiation in Yazd, Iran

Background: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is divided into three regions: UVA, UVB, and UVC. Both the quality and quantity of solar UV radiation vary with various factors including the elevation of the sun above the horizon, as well as absorption and scattering of UV photons by molecules in the atmosphere, notably ozone and clouds. It is clear that whereas a moderate amount of UV exposure ...

Estimating and modeling monthly mean daily global solar radiation on horizontal surfaces using artificial neural networks

In this study, an artificial neural network based model for prediction of solar energy potential in Kerman province in Iran has been developed. Meteorological data of 12 cities for period of 17 years (1997–2013) and solar radiation for five cities around and inside Kerman province from the Iranian Meteorological Office data center were used for the training and testing the network. Meteorologic...

Biases in Shortwave Column Absorption in the Presence of Fractal Clouds

The goal of this study is to understand inter-droplet cloud absorption in horizontally inhomogeneous clouds. In order to minimize the absorption by cloud drops, a spectral band around 0.94 μm with strong molecular and very weak liquid absorption has been chosen for detailed analysis. The 0.94 micron band has insignificant Rayleigh scattering and a large range of transmission (Figure 1). In othe...

Solar radiation budget and radiative forcing due to aerosols and clouds

[1] This study integrates global data sets for aerosols, cloud physical properties, and shortwave radiation fluxes with a Monte Carlo Aerosol-Cloud-Radiation (MACR) model to estimate both the surface and the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) solar radiation budget as well as atmospheric column solar absorption. The study also quantifies the radiative forcing of aerosols and that of clouds. The observatio...
