On Witt Vector Cohomology for Singular Varieties

چکیده
Over a perfect field k of characteristic p > 0, we construct a “Witt vector cohomology with compact supports” for separated k-schemes of finite type, extending (after tensorisation with Q) the classical theory for proper k-schemes. We define a canonical morphism from rigid cohomology with compact supports to Witt vector cohomology with compact supports, and we prove that it provides an identification between the latter and the slope < 1 part of the former. Over a finite field, this allows one to compute congruences for the number of rational points in special examples. In particular, the congruence modulo the cardinality of the finite field of the number of rational points of a theta divisor on an abelian variety does not depend on the choice of the theta divisor. This answers positively a question by J.-P. Serre.

Extendable Cohomologies for Complex Analytic Varieties
We introduce a cohomology, called extendable cohomology, for abstract complex singular varieties based on suitable differential forms. Beside a study of the general properties of such a cohomology, we show that, given a complex vector bundle, one can compute its topological Chern classes using the extendable Chern classes, defined via a Chern-Weil type theory. We also prove that the localizatio...
متن کاملA comparison of logarithmic overconvergent de Rham-Witt and log-crystalline cohomology for projective smooth varieties with normal crossing divisor
In this note we derive for a smooth projective variety X with normal crossing divisor Z an integral comparison between the log-crystalline cohomology of the associated log-scheme and the logarithmic overconvergent de Rham-Witt cohomology defined by Matsuue. This extends our previous result that in the absence of a divisor Z the crystalline cohomology and overconvergent de Rham-Witt cohomology a...
متن کاملEtale Cohomology
The development of etale cohomology was motivated by work on the Weil conjectures, which state that local-zeta functions ζ(X, s), i.e. the generating function for the number of rational points of a projective variety defined over a finite field Fq in all finite extensions, satisfy certain properties analogous to those of the Riemann zeta function. Weil observed that the number of points defined...
متن کاملFrom the Global Signature to Higher Signatures
Let X be an algebraic variety over the field of real numbers R. We use the signature of a quadratic form to produce “higher” global signatures relating the derived Witt groups of X to the singular cohomology of the real points X(R) with integer coefficients. We also study the global signature ring homomorphism and use the powers of the fundamental ideal in the Witt ring to prove an integral ver...
