Some physiological and immunological properties of Pasteurella pestis recovered from aerosols.

چکیده

When bacteria are disseminated into air, the concentration of viable cells in the aerosol decreases with time. It has been shown that part of this loss is due to impingement of cells on the surfaces of the container and to settling, but there is also considerable evidence for biological inactivation (Lester, 1948; Dunklin and Puck, 1948; Boyd and Forstat, 1953). This study has been undertaken to determine the extent of physiological alteration associated with aerosolization, and if possible, to correlate these alterations with changes in virulence. This report presents data which were obtained from a number of physiological and immunological experiments with organisms recovered from aerosols.

Dissociation in Pasteurella pestis: immunological comparisons of smooth and non-smooth variants.

Altlhough the literature on the immunology of Pasteurella pestis is extensive, relatively little attention has been given to the immunological specificity of colonial variants. This may have been due to difficulties encountered in the propagation of pure nonsmooth variants, and for this very reason their serological specificity might be considered to be of minor importance; colonial morphology ...

Studies on plague. II. Immunological properties of purified Pasteurella pestis toxin.

The role played by the toxin of Pasteurella pestis in immunity against plague has been to date largely conjecture. The isolation of a highly purified toxin from this organism (Ajl et al., 1955) offers the necessary specific agent for the investigation of this problem. The studies to be described in this report were undertaken with a threefold purpose. They included (a) an attempt to manufacture...

Studies on the nutrition and physiology of Pasteurella pestis. I. A chemically defined culture medium for Pasteurella pestis.

The chemically defined culture media for Pasteurella pestis which were formulated by Rao (1939, 1940a, b), Berkman (1942), Doudoroff (1943), and Herbert (1949) did not support the growth of any of the 27 strains available in this laboratory. This report describes the.development of a chemically defined medium which was evaluated in terms of the following criteria: yields of viable cells, minimu...
