چکیده

Acquiring the complete surface geometry of an object using a range scanner invariably requires that multiple range images be taken of it from different viewpoints. An algorithm is presented which solves the “next best view” (NBV) problem: determine the next position for the range scanner given its previous scans of the object. As part of a complete surface acquisition system the scanner’s next position should cause it not only to sample more of the object’s surface but to resample part of the object already scanned to allow for the registration and integration of the new data with the previous scans. A novel representation, positional space, is presented which facilitates a solution to the NBV problem by representing what must be and what can be scanned in a unified data structure. The expensive operation of determining the visibility of part of the viewing volume is computed only once, not for each potential position of the scanner, thus breaking the computational burden of choosing the NBV from a large number of positions. No assumptions are made about the geometry or topology of the object. The algorithm is self-terminating, will scan all visible surfaces of an object and can be directed to resample surfaces which were scanned with low confidence. In addition, the algorithm will work with nearly any range camera and scanning setup. A completely automated surface acquisition system featuring the proposed NBV algorithm is demonstrated on a

Improving Energy-Efficient Target Coverage in Visual Sensor Networks

Target coverage is one of the important problems in visual sensor networks. The coverage should be accompanied with an efficient use of energy in order to increase the network lifetime. In this paper, we address the maximum lifetime for visual sensor networks (MLV) problem by maximizing the network lifetime while covering all the targets. For this purpose, we develop a simulated annealing (SA) ...

A two Stage Heuristic Solution Approach for Resource Assignment during a Cell Formation Problem

Design of Cellular Manufacturing System involves four major decisions: Cell formation (CF), Group layout (GL), Group scheduling (Gs) and Resource assignment (RA).  These problems should be regarded, concurrently, in order to obtain an optimal solution in a CM environment. In this paper a two stage heuristic procedure is proposed for CF and RA decisions problem. The solution approach contains a ...

A heuristic approach for multi-stage sequence-dependent group scheduling problems

We present several heuristic algorithms based on tabu search for solving the multi-stage sequence-dependent group scheduling (SDGS) problem by considering minimization of makespan as the criterion. As the problem is recognized to be strongly NP-hard, several meta (tabu) search-based solution algorithms are developed to efficiently solve industry-size problem instances. Also, two different initi...

Sensor placement for 3-D modeling is a growing area of computer vision and robotics. The objective of a sensor placement system is to make task-directed decisions for optimal pose selection. This thesis proposes a Next Best View (NBV) solution to the sensor placement problem. Our algorithm computes the next best view by optimizing an objective function that measures the quantity of unknown info...

An Electrochemical Sensor Based on Novel Ion Imprinted Polymeric Nanoparticles for Selective Detection of Lead Ions

In this study, the novel surface ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) particles were prepared and applied as a electrode modifier in stripping voltammetric detection of lead(II) ion. A carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with IIP nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was used for accumulation of toxic lead ions. Various factors that govern on electrochemical signals including carbon...
