Optimal Anisotropic Meshes for Minimizing Interpolation Errors in L-norm

چکیده
In this paper, we present a new optimal interpolation error estimate in Lp norm (1 ≤ p ≤ ∞) for finite element simplicial meshes in any spatial dimension. A sufficient condition for a mesh to be nearly optimal is that it is quasi-uniform under a new metric defined by a modified Hessian matrix of the function to be interpolated. We also give new functionals for the global moving mesh method and obtain optimal monitor functions from the viewpoint of minimizing interpolation error in the Lp norm. Some numerical examples are also given to support the theoretical estimates.

متن کاملAn Interpolation Error Estimate on Anisotropic Meshes in Rn and Optimal Metrics for Mesh Refinement
In this paper, we extend the work in [W. Cao, Math. Comp., to appear] to functions of n dimensions. We measure the anisotropic behavior of higher-order derivative tensors by the “largest” (in certain sense) ellipse/ellipsoid contained in the level curve/surface of the polynomial for directional derivatives. Given the anisotropic measure for the interpolated functions, we derive an error estimat...
متن کاملAnisotropic Mesh Adaptation for Solution of Finite Element Problems Using Hierarchical Edge-Based Error Estimates
We present a new technology for generating meshes minimizing the interpolation and discretization errors or their gradients. The key element of this methodology is construction of a space metric from edge-based error estimates. For a mesh with Nh triangles, the error is proportional to N −1 h and the gradient of error is proportional to N −1/2 h which are the optimal asymptotics. The methodolog...
متن کاملHigher-order interpolation for mesh adaptation
This paper addresses the construction of anisotropic metrics from higher-order interpolation error in 2 dimensions [2, 3] for mesh adaptation. Our approach is based on homogeneous polynomials that model a local interpolation error. Optimal orientation and ratios are found by using the Sylvester decomposition [4]. Then we apply a global calculus of variation to get the optimal metric field minim...
متن کاملNumerical Study of an Anisotropic Error Estimator in the L(h) Norm for the Finite Element Discretization of the Wave Equation
Abstract. An anisotropic a posteriori error estimate is derived for a finite element discretization of the wave equation in two space dimensions. Only the error due to space discretization is considered and the error estimates are derived in the non natural L(0, T ;H(Ω)) norm using elliptic reconstruction. A numerical study of the effectivity index on unstructured, non adapted, anisotropic mesh...
