Adjustment for Baseline Level of Dengue Cases Due to Increased Testing in Singapore

چکیده
Introduction Dengue is endemic in Singapore, with epidemics of increasing magnitude occurring on a six-year cycle in 1986/7, 1992, 1998, 2004/5, 2007 and 2013. The incidence per 100,000 population ranged from 87.2 to 105.6 in 2009-20121, and surged to 410.6 in 2013. The mean weekly number of dengue cases over a five-year period provides an indication of the baseline level. We illustrate an adjustment that has been made to the computation of the baseline level due to increased testing for dengue in 2013.

Dengue with Normal Platelet Count and no Hemoconcentration: Automated Hematogram in Cases with Underlying Thalassemia
Dear Editor, Dengue is an important arbovirus infection. This infection can result in an acute febrile illness. The important hematological abnormalities included hemoconcentration and thrombocytopenia (1). Due to the decreased platelet count, the patient might develop petechiae and hemorrhagic complication. In endemic area, the presumptive diagnosis of dengue is usually derived by the cl...
متن کاملAcute retroviral syndrome mimics dengue in Singapore.
Dear Editor, Both dengue and acute human immunodefi ciency virus-1 (HIV-1) can cause a febrile illness associated with myalgias, rash and blood count abnormalities, as noted in a single case report.1 In Singapore, suspected cases of dengue are usually managed as outpatients without confi rmatory testing, so acute HIV-1 may be misdiagnosed.2 If routine confi rmatory testing for dengue-like illne...
متن کاملDengue Seroprevalence of Healthy Adults in Singapore: Serosurvey among Blood Donors, 2009
Routine national notifications of dengue cases typically do not reflect the true dengue situation due to large proportion of unreported cases. Serosurveys, when conducted periodically, could shed light on the true dengue infections in the population. To determine the magnitude of dengue infections of the adult population in Singapore following the outbreak in 2007, we performed a cross-sectiona...
متن کاملNeutralizing Antibody Response and Efficacy of Novel Recombinant Tetravalent Dengue DNA Vaccine Comprising Envelope Domain III in Mice
Background: Dengue is a global arboviral threat to humans; causing 390 million infections per year. The availability of safe and effective tetravalent dengue vaccine is a global requirement to prevent epidemics, morbidity, and mortality associated with it. Methods: Five experimental groups (6 mice per group) each of 5-week-old BALB/c mice were immunized with vaccine and placebo (empty plasmid) ...
متن کاملA Seroprevalence Survey of Dengue Virus Infection in Healthy Singapore University Undergraduates by Enzyme Immunoassay and Plaque Reduction Neutralization Test
A seroepidemiological survey was conducted from 1998 to 2000 to determine the seroprevalence of dengue virus infection in a cohort of healthy Singapore university undergraduates aged 19-26 years using a commercial dengue indirect IgG enzyme immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit (PanBio). Out of 184 volunteers, 41 (22%) tested seropositive, suggesting that 78% of this young cohort would be susceptible...
