Comparison of Numerical Methods in Uncertainty Quantification

چکیده
Abstract: This paper presents and compares the results obtained using several methods for Stochastic Computations, used in Uncertainty Quantification. We practically present the methods using a simple ODE model. The focus is on both intrusive and non-intrusive methods, namely the Monte Carlo method, along with methods based on generalized polynomial chaos(gPC) methodology. Moreover, we asses the obtained results by comparing them with the analytical solution of the system.

A Comparison of Sampling Techniques for Uncertainty Quantification
Uncertainty quantification in numerical simulations generally relies on applying sampling techniques to select input parameters for a suite of deterministic calculations and then combining the results of the calculations into output distributions. Several approaches, including metamodeling and Latin Hypercube Sampling, are prevalent today. This paper will focus on the comparison of several comm...
متن کاملError and Uncertainty Quantification and Sensitivity Analysis Inmechanics Computationalmodels
Multiple sources of errors and uncertainty arise in mechanics computational models and contribute to the uncertainty in the final model prediction. This paper develops a systematic error quantification methodology for computational models. Some types of errors are deterministic, and some are stochastic. Appropriate procedures are developed to either correct the model prediction for deterministi...
متن کاملForward and Backward Uncertainty Quantification in Optimization
This contribution gathers some of the ingredients presented during the Iranian Operational Research community gathering in Babolsar in 2019.It is a collection of several previous publications on how to set up an uncertainty quantification (UQ) cascade with ingredients of growing computational complexity for both forward and reverse uncertainty propagation.
متن کاملCombining Probability and Possibility to Respect the Real State of Knowledge on Uncertainties in the Evaluation of Safety Margins
This paper is devoted to some recent developments in uncertainty analysis methods of computer codes used for accident management procedures in nuclear industry. A quick overview on classical probabilistic methods for uncertainty methodology is first given. It turns out that despite its attractiveness relying on a simple implementation and convenient available tools to study the statistics of th...
