چکیده

I reviewed in 1952 the literature on freeze-dried BCG vaccine in order to help evaluate the relative merits of fresh liquid and dried vaccines on the basis of the results of vaccination. More BCG production centres have since taken to the preparation of dried BCG vaccine for either experimental use or for vaccination. In India, the scene of activity of the mass vaccination campaign has shifted from urban and semiurban to rural areas in remote parts of the country, thereby accentuating the practical problems in the transport of fresh liquid BCG vaccine and its use in the field. There has therefore been in recent years a renewed interest in dried BCG vaccine in this country, as also in some other countries.

Recent Improvements in Bcg Vaccine Production.

WORK has been directed recently towards the development of a freeze-dried BCG vaccine with the property of heat stability in order to provide a vaccine which will retain its potency if exposed for short periods to the high environmental temperatures experienced in tropical countries. Numerous attempts have been made to improve the heat stability of freeze-dried BCG vaccine. Earlier attempts hav...

Improvement of Thermal Stability of BCG Vaccine

Background: Thermal stability (TS) is a part of the BCG vaccine characterization by which the consistency of process in BCG vaccine production could be confirmed. To enhance the TS of the vaccine, some prevalent stabilizers in different concentrations were added to the final formulation of BCG bulk prior to Freeze-drying process. We found a formulation more effective than the current stabilizer...

Historical review of BCG vaccine in Japan.

Bacillus Calmette and Guérin (BCG) was introduced to Japan in 1924 by Kiyoshi Shiga and has been propagated for research purposes ever since propagation is accomplished using a glycerin-bile-potato mixture in the same manner used by Calmette and Guérin. To prepare a stable and safe freeze-dried BCG vaccine, several joint research projects were organized in 1949. At the National Institute of Inf...

BCG vaccine in Korea

The anti-tuberculosis Bacille de Calmette et Guérin (BCG) vaccine was developed between 1905 and 1921 at Pasteur Institutes of Lille in France, and was adopted by many countries. BCG strains comprise natural mutants of major virulence factors of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and that BCG sub-strains differ markedly in virulence levels. The tuberculosis became endemic in Korea after the Korean War ...
