Dreams reported in psychoanalysis may reflect not only the transference of tht> patient, but also the countertransference, counterresistance, and counteranxicty of the psychoanalyst. Because of the communicative capacity of dreams, the' analyst may use the patit>nt's dreams as supervi sion. Objective signs are described that may indicate countenransfer ence interference in the analyst's dream illter-preta tion. Through a prqc("~s. QLreciprQ\:<l~~_i~~y~~.£i:_':::..~~~m...!n!£r£E~tation, the dream's meaning about tlte transference-countertransference matrix can he clarified. Clinical examples indude the "Lovely Dream" reported by Freud, along with examples from the casebook of Gtll and Hoffman (1982) and from the author's own practice.
