چکیده

Two well known data sets are used in this article to show that practical procedures of statistical process control can be made more effective by drawing on ideas of time series analysis. In particular, time series plots, simple time series modeling, and outlier detection are found to be useful in identifying possible common and special causes in a process that are likely to be overlooked by traditional control charts and in avoiding false identifications of special causes. We also discuss the use of pattern tests in conjunction with control charts.

A phase II nonparametric control chart based on precedence statistics with runs-type signaling rules

Nonparametric control charts do not require knowledge about the shape of the underlying distribution and can thus be attractive in certain situations. Two new Shewharttype nonparametric control charts are proposed for monitoring the unknown location parameter of a continuous population in Phase II (prospective) applications. The charts are based on control limits given by two specified order st...

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT RESEARCH Statistical process control as a tool for research and healthcare improvement

Improvement of health care requires making changes in processes of care and service delivery. Although process performance is measured to determine if these changes are having the desired beneficial effects, this analysis is complicated by the existence of natural variation—that is, repeated measurements naturally yield different values and, even if nothing was done, a subsequent measurement mi...

An ex ante control chart for project monitoring using earned duration management observations

In the past few years, there has been an increasing interest in developing project control systems. The primary purpose of such systems is to indicate whether the actual performance is consistent with the baseline and to produce a signal in the case of non-compliance. Recently, researchers have shown an increased interest in monitoring project’s performance indicators, by plotting them on the S...

A new chart-independent method for fast identification of control level of industrial processes using continuous data

A new method is developed for a fast identification of the stability situation of industrial processes. The proposed method includes two factor ratios of the control constants for the upper and lower control limits to process these constants. An indication ratio is then defined as the ratio of the maximum data range value to the difference between the maximum and average values for individual d...
