Quantum Communication Complexity with Coherent States and Linear Optics

چکیده
We introduce a general mapping for encoding quantum communication protocols involving pure states of multiple qubits, unitary transformations, and projective measurements into another set of protocols that employ coherent states of light in a superposition of optical modes, linear optics transformations and measurements with single-photon threshold detectors. This provides a general framework for transforming a wide class of protocols in quantum communication into a form in which they can be implemented with current technology. In particular, we apply the mapping to quantum communication complexity, providing general conditions under which quantum protocols can be implemented with coherent states and linear optics while retaining exponential separations in communication complexity compared to the classical case. Finally, we make use of our results to construct a protocol for the Hidden Matching problem that retains the known exponential gap between quantum and classical one-way communication complexity. 1998 ACM Subject Classification J.2 Physics, E.4 Formal Models of Communication

Coherent Transport of Single Photon in a Quantum Super-cavity with Mirrors Composed of Λ-Type Three-level Atomic Ensembles
In this paper, we study the coherent transport of single photon in a coupled resonator waveguide (CRW) where two threelevel Λ-type atomic ensembles are embedded in two separate cavities. We show that it is possible to control the photon transmission and reflection coefficients by using classical control fields. In particular, we find that the total photon transmission and reflection are achieva...

Optical communication channels are ultimately quantum-mechanical in nature, and we must therefore look beyond classical information theory to determine their communication capacity as well as to find efficient encoding and decoding schemes of the highest rates. Thermal channels, which arise from linear coupling of the field to a thermal environment, are of particular practical relevance; their ...
متن کاملBell-state measurement and quantum teleportation using linear optics: two-photon pairs, entangled coherent states, and hybrid entanglement
We review and compare Bell-state measurement and quantum teleportation schemes using linear optics with three different types of resources, i.e., two-photon pairs, entangled coherent states and hybrid entangled states. Remarkably, perfect teleportation with linear optics is possible in principle based on a hybrid approach that combines two-photon pairs and entangled coherent states. It turns ou...

We propose a scheme for continuous-variable quantum cloning of coherent states with phaseconjugate input modes using linear optics. The quantum cloning machine yields M identical optimal clones from N replicas of a coherent state and N its replicas of phase conjugate. This scheme can be straightforwardly implemented with the setup accessible at present since its optical implementation only empl...

We show that quantum computation circuits using coherent states as the logical qubits can be constructed from very simple linear networks, conditional measurements and coherent superposition resource states. Quantum optics has proved a fertile field for experimental tests of quantum information science, from experimental verification of Bell inequality violations [1,2] to quantum telepor-tation...
