The deployment of debris in equatorial orbits would be an effi cient and cost-effective countenneasure to the establishment of or bital weapons platfonns. The presence of orbital debris would force the building of orbital platfonns to build and maintain mas sive shielding to protect the platfonns. The cost ratio between at tacking a system of orbital structures with a debris belt and defend ing the structures from the belt would be highly favorable to the building of the belt. The creation of such a belt would severely limit the use of the affected regions of space for any use whatsoev er.
