چکیده

This paper presents a numerical approach for simulating volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from dry materials. The approach has been used to examine the VOC emissions from two particleboards. The emission study for the particleboards shows that a fairly good agreement of VOC concentrations between the model prediction and experimental data can be achieved by pre-calculating the partition coefficient (Kma) and material age (AGE) and adjusting the diffusion coefficient (Dm) and initial concentration (C0). Further, the study finds that Kma only affects short-term emissions while Dm influences both the short-term and long-term emissions.

Effects of airflow on VOC emissions from "wet" coating materials: experimental measurements and numerical simulation

The impact of airflow on volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from “wet” materials has long been noticed. However, a comprehensive mass transfer model that can predict such an impact has not been reported. The objective of this research was to fill that gap. First, we measured the VOC emissions of “wet” coating materials (a decane and a wood stain) using a small-scale (0.4 m3) and a full-s...

A Mass transfer model for simulating volatile organic compound emissions from 'wet' coating materials applied to absorptive substrates

A numerical model has been developed to simulate volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from “wet” coating materials. The model considers the VOC mass transfer process in the air and material-air interface, and diffusion in the material film and also in the substrate. Our numerical simulations confirmed that the emissions from “wet” materials applied to an absorptive substrate are dominated ...

Effects of environmental and test conditions on VOC emissions from "wet" coating materials.

In this paper, numerical simulations have been conducted to study the effects of key environmental and test conditions (air velocity, temperature, film thickness, and sample application time) on volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from a "wet" coating material (wood stain). Simulation results indicate that air velocity and sample application time only significantly affect the emission pro...

Volatile organic emissions from the distillation and pyrolysis of vegetation

Leaf and woody plant tissue (Pinus ponderosa, Eucalyptus saligna, Quercus gambelli, Saccharum officinarum and Oriza sativa) were heated from 30 to 300C and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions were identified and quantified. Major VOC emissions were mostly oxygenated and included acetic acid, furylaldehyde, acetol, pyrazine, terpenes, 2,3-butadione, phenol and methanol, as well as smaller ...
