Alternative Models of Recreational Off - Highway Vehicle Site Demand

چکیده

A controversial recreation activity is off-highway vehicle use. Off-highway vehicle use is controversial because it is incompatible with most other activities and is extremely hard on natural eco-systems. This study estimates utility theoretic incomplete demand systems for four off-highway vehicle sites. Since two sets of restrictions are equally consistent with utility theory both are imposed and the best fitting restrictions are identified using Voung's nonnested testing scheme. The demand system is modeled using both Poisson and negative binomial 11 distributions. Data are provided by a survey conducted at four recreational offhighway vehicle (OHV) sites in western North Carolina.

Preference Heterogeneity in a Count Data Model of Demand for Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation

on public land is not new—motorcycles have been used off-road for nearly a century (Havlick 2002).1 However, the growth in popularity of OHV use is primarily due to the introduction of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), which began gaining popularity after being introduced in 1983, and ATV riding has become one of the fastest growing outdoor recreation activities in the country.2 Between 1982 and 200...

Western Regional Research Publication

The recent boom in the demand for off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation has created an important policy issue for public land managers who are concerned with the impacts of OHV use on environmental quality. Within the past few years, the U.S. Forest Service has recognized the need for greater authority in managing these recreation areas and has proposed to amend OHV regulations. However, not muc...

Comparative Research on Optimal Damping Matching of Seat System for an off-Highway Dump Truck

To protect the driver of off-highway dump trucks from the harmful vibration, this paper presents the comparison results to determine the optimal damping of the seat system by different optimization design plans. Three optimization schemes are considered including individually optimizing the damping of the cushion, individually optimizing the damping of the seat suspension, and integrately optim...

Single-Vehicle Run-Off-Road Crash Prediction Model Associated with Pavement Characteristics

This study aims to evaluate the impact of pavement physical characteristics on the frequency of single-vehicle run-off-road (ROR) crashes in two-lane separated rural highways. In order to achieve this goal and to introduce the most accurate crash prediction model (CPM), authors have tried to develop generalized linear models, including the Poisson regression (PR), negative binomial regression (...

Estimating Arrival Numbers for Informal Recreation: A Geographical Approach and Case Study of British Woodlands

This paper describes a novel methodology for generating models of demand for informal outdoor recreation. We analyze visitor data from multiple forest sites across Great Britain. We introduce a wide range of variables typically omitted from most economic demand models of recreation. These include on-site characteristics, and off-site locational drivers of visitation including substitute and com...
