MayBMS: A Possible Worlds Base Management System
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. MAYBMS Incomplete information is frequent in real-world applications. This is often the case in data integration scenarios, in scientific data collections, or whenever the information is acquired using human interaction and is erroneous or imperfect. The different interpretations of incomplete information yield different possible worlds. A system for managing incomplete data faces the challenge of being able to represent large sets of possible worlds compactly, while at the same time supporting efficient processing of the data.

Query language support for incomplete information in the MayBMS system
MayBMS [4, 1, 3, 2] is a data management system for incomplete information developed at Saarland University. Its main features are a simple and compact representation system for incomplete information and a language called I-SQL with explicit operations for handling uncertainty. MayBMS is currently an extension of PostgreSQL and manages both complete and incomplete data and evaluates I-SQL quer...
متن کاملMayBMS: A System for Managing Large Uncertain and Probabilistic Databases
MayBMS is a state-of-the-art probabilistic database management system that has been built as an extension of Postgres, an open-source relational database management system. MayBMS follows a principled approach to leveraging the strengths of previous database research for achieving scalability. This article describes the main goals of this project, the design of query and update language, effici...
متن کاملEfficient Updates of Uncertain Databases
Uncertain databases have evolved as an active area of database research, surveyed, for example, in [10].The possible worlds semantics [1] is commonly used to deal with uncertain data. Several representation systems for uncertain databases have been proposed to provide efficient storage and query facilities for a potentially big number of possible worlds, see, e.g., [14,4,8]. Antova et al. intro...

This article builds on Mannion and Exworthy’s account of the tensions between standardization and customization within health services to explore why these tensions exist. It highlights the limitations of explanations which root them in an expression of managerialism versus professionalism and suggests that each logic is embedded in a set of ontological, epistemological and moral commitments wh...
