چکیده

This paper presents the results of the 4th International Comparison of in vitro electron paramagnetic resonance dosimetry with tooth enamel, where the performance parameters of tooth enamel dosimetry methods were compared among sixteen laboratories from all over the world. The participating laboratories were asked to determine a calibration curve with a set of tooth enamel powder samples provided by the organizers. Nine molar teeth extracted following medical indication from German donors and collected between 1997 and 2007 were prepared and irradiated at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. Five out of six samples were irradiated at 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 Gy air kerma; and one unirradiated sample was kept as control. The doses delivered to the individual samples were unknown to the participants, who were asked to measure each sample nine times, and to report the EPR signal response, the mass of aliquots measured, and the parameters of EPR signal acquisition and signal evaluation. Critical dose and detection limit were calculated by the organizers on the basis of the calibration-curve parameters obtained at every laboratory. For calibration curves obtained by measuring every calibration sample three times, the mean value of the detection limit was 205 mGy, ranging from 56 to 649 mGy. The * Corresponding author. Comparison Between Deciduous And Permanent Teeth in Relation to their Utility for EPR Dosimetry Comparison Between Deciduous And Permanent Teeth in Relation to their Utility for EPR Dosimetry

Introduction Ionizing radiation generates extremly long lived CO2 radicals in calcified tissue. The CO2 concentration rises linearly with dose and can be detected directly by means of EPR spectroscopy (electron paramagnetic resonanc). For retrospective dose estimation tooth enamel and dentine as well as bone samples may be used as in-vivo-dosimeter. Enamel analysis of permanent teeth has been e...

Human EPR Dosimetry at Low Accumulated Dose of Ionizing Radiation Human EPR Dosimetry at Low Accumulated Dose of Ionizing Radiation

A new method for tooth (enamel and dentine) and bone EPR dosimetry is proposed that enhances substantially the dosimetric sensitivity. The method is based on the nonstandard spectra registration mode (the second harmonic phase quadrature detection of absorption under rapid passage conditions). This method provides an apparent enhancement of the component ratio of radiation to a nonradiative bac...

Retrospective dosimetry using fingernail in nuclear industries: A review paper

Generally, doses greater than 2Gy can produce acute biological effects in humans. For this reason, to measure and record the cumulative dose, especially in radiation users, the need for a personal dosimeter has been strongly felt by the researchers. The purpose of this study is to introduce retrospective dosimetric techniques, in particular the use of nails as a natural tool for determining cum...

Tooth enamel EPR dosimetry: optimization of EPR spectra recording parameters and effect of sample mass on spectral sensitivity.

In order to improve the accuracy of the tooth enamel EPR dosimetry method, EPR spectra recording conditions were optimized. The uncertainty of dose determination was obtained as the mean square deviation of doses, determined with the use of a spectra deconvolution program, from the nominal doses for ten enamel samples irradiated in the range from 0 to 500 mGy. The spectra were recorded at diffe...

Enhanced EPR Dose Reconstruction in Teeth

Currently electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) retrospective biodosimetry with tooth enamel can measure doses as low as 30 mGy. This method uses commercial X-band (9.5 GHz) EPR spectrometers and specially prepared samples from tooth enamel. One of the disadvantages of X-band EPR dosimetry is the requirement to obtain isolated teeth from a cohort of interest. In vivo EPR retrospective biodosime...
