چکیده

Abst rac t . The integration of classical case-based reasoning with other problem solving methods attracts increasing research interest in the broader area of information and decision support systems. This paper presents a framework where CBR and Argumentation Based Reasoning jointly aid agents to address various discourse instances in group decision making processes. The ability to comprehend and engage in arguments is essential for these environments, while use of precedent cases is wellsuited. Cases in our model are not merely considered as representations of past data, but as flexible entities associated with the underlying viewpoint of an agent and the evolution of the corresponding discussion. The paper provides an object-oriented description of the elements involved, and illustrates their dependencies through a comprehensive example.

A Food Packaging Use Case for Argumentation

Within the framework of the European project EcoBioCap (ECOefficient BIOdegradable Composite Advanced Packaging), aiming at conceiving the next generation of food packagings, we introduce an argumentation-based tool for management of conflicting viewpoints between preferences expressed by the involved parties (food and packaging industries, health and waste management authorities, consumers, et...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Dialectic Approach for Using Viewpoint Discrepancies in Learning

The paper proposes a dialectic approach to exploit discrepancies of viewpoints for learning. The approach is illustrated with an elaborated example. A computational framework of a pedagogical agent capable of interacting with a learner for discussing different viewpoints in the same domain is outlined. The framework employs AI technologies, such as argumentation for defeasible reasoning, situat...

Argumentation-Based Reasoning Using Preferences over Sources of Information: (Extended Abstract)

Argumentation-based reasoning plays an important role in agent reasoning and communication. In this work, we extend an argumentation-based reasoning mechanism to take into account preferences over arguments supporting contrary conclusions. Such preferences come from elements that are present or can be more easily obtained in the context of practical multi-agent programming platforms, such as mu...
