چکیده

In children, fracture-separation of the epiphyseal plate near the elbow joint is a common occurrence. However, separation of the distal humeral epiphysis is very rare, especially in the newborn. There have been very few reports of this rare injury since 1926. When it occurs in the newborn, it may be difficult to diagnose and is easily mistaken for a dislocation of the elbow. Caesarean deliveries with considerable traction applied to extract the baby can be the risk factor of such injury. The unimpressive clinical appearance of such injury of the elbow, as well as the absence of ossific nuclei of the distal humerus in the newborn is responsible for the dilemma in making the diagnosis. The correct diagnosis was made from plain radiographs and often supplemented with ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and arthrography. Opened reduction with percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation is one of the treatments of choice for these injuries. In this article, we report a rare injury of distal humeral epiphyseal separation in a newborn during a caesarean section.

Neonatal separation of distal humeral epiphysis during Caesarean section: a case report.

We report a rare injury of distal humeral epiphyseal separation in a newborn during a Caesarean section. The diagnosis was made using magnetic resonance imaging. Emergency Caesarean deliveries with considerable traction applied to extract the baby can be the risk factor of such an injury.

Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Humeral Head: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a common joint disorder in knee, ankle and elbow, however it can be rarely found in glenohumeral joint. In this study, we report an asymptomatic case of humeral head OCD, which was detected incidentally following a trauma. X-rays showed an area of lucency around an oval bony fragment measuring about 1 cm on the superior aspect of the humeral head. However, ...

Concomitant Ulecranon Fracture, Ipsilateral Segmental Humerus Fracture and Intercondylar Humerus Fracture in a 4-Year-Old Girl: an Extremely Rare Case Report and Literature Review

T-condylar fracture of distal humerus in young children is very rare. Pure physeal fractures of the olecranon are also rare. We report on an extremely rare case of concomitant ulecranon fracture, ipsilateral segmental humerus and intercondylar humerus fracture (type III) in a skeletally immature patient.

Triplane Fracture of the Proximal Tibia: A Case Report and Literature Review

Background The triplane fracture, a unique transitional physeal injury, is classically described in the distal tibia. A small number of additional anatomic locations are documented in the orthopaedic literature. Methods Available literature surrounding triplane fractures was reviewed. We describe a rare case of a proximal tibial triplane fracture in a thirteen-year-old girl, suffered during a...
