Application of Local Area Weather Radar (LAWR) in relation to hydrological modelling – Identification of the pitfalls in using high resolution radar rainfall data

چکیده
Recent analysis of spatial and temporal resolution of rainfall and the advent of small inexpensive rainfall radars has lead to increased use of radar estimated rainfall as input to hydrological models especially in urban areas. Detailed rainfall measurements have indicated a very high spatial variation of up to 100 % of a distance of less that 200 m over a 3 hour rainfall event [Jensen and Pedersen, 2005]. Modelling urban runoff using few rain-gauges may easily lead to very high uncertainty on the simulated flows.

Network Architecture for Small X-band Weather Radars – Test Bed for Automatic Inter-calibration and Nowcasting
In recent years the use of small inexpensive Xband radars for meteorological and hydrological purposes has increased significantly. Compared to the traditional C-band and S-band radars the X-band weather radar has the advantage of high temporal and spatial resolution and low financial cost; however, the trade off is attenuation due to X-band technology and short range due to the higher spatial ...

Application of weather radar data in urban hydrological applications has evolved significantly during the past decade as an alternative to traditional rainfall observations with rain gauges. Advances in radar hardware, data processing, numerical models, and emerging fields within urban hydrology necessitate an updated review of the state of the art in such radar rainfall data and applications. ...
متن کامل3D Modelling of Under Ground Burried Objects Based on Ground Penetration Radar
There is a growing demand for mapping and 3D modelling of buried objects such as pipelines, agricultural hetitage, landmines and other buried objects. Usually, large scale and high resolution maps from these objects are needed. Manually map generation and modeling of these objects are cost and time consuming and is dependent on lots of resources. Therefore, automating the subsurface mapping and...

The history of weather radar is, among other applications, a manifestation of quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE), shown e.g. by Collier and Hardaker (2003). The main objective in such activities is to develop quantitatively accurate hydrological applications, especially nowcasting and warning systems of flash floods. The advantage of weather radars compared to conventional gauge networ...
