Tsallis statistics with normalized q-expectation values is thermodynamically stable: illustrations

چکیده
We present a study of both the “Iterative Procedure” and the “β → β transformation”, proposed by Tsallis et al (Physica A261, 534) to find the probabilities pi of a system to be in a state with energy ǫi, within the framework of a generalized statistical mechanics. Using stability and convexity arguments, we argue that the iterative procedure does not always provide the right temperature dependence of thermodynamic observables. In addition, we show how to get the correct answers from the “β → β transformation”. Our results provide an evidence that the Tsallis statistics with normalized q-expectation values is stable for all ranges of temperatures. We also show that the cut-off in the computation of probabilities is required to achieve the stable solutions.

Nonextensive foundation of Lévy distributions.
A deep connection between the ubiquity of Lévy distributions in nature and the nonextensive thermal statistics introduced a decade ago has been established recently [Tsallis et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 3589 (1995)], by using unnormalized q-expectation values. It has just been argued on physical grounds that normalized q-expectation values should be used instead. We revisit, within this more ap...
متن کاملEntropy of Self - Gravitating Systems III . quasi - equilibrium structure using normalized q - values
We revisit the issues on the thermodynamic property of stellar self-gravitating system arising from Tsallis’ non-extensive entropy. Previous papers (Physica A 307 (2002) 185; ibid. (2003) in press (cond-mat/0204315)) have revealed that the extremum-state of Tsallis entropy, so-called stellar polytrope, has consistent thermodynamic structure, which predicts the thermodynamic instability due to t...
متن کاملJa n 20 06 A composition of different q nonextensive systems with the normalized expectation based on escort probability
This is a study of composition rule and temperature definition for nonextensive systems containing different q subsystems. The physical meaning of the multiplier β associated with the energy expectation in the optimization of Tsallis entropy is investigated for the formalism with normalized expectation given by escort probability. This study is carried out for two possible cases: the case of th...
متن کاملGeneralized symmetric nonextensive thermostatistics and q-modified structures
We formulate a convenient generalization of the q-expectation value, based on the analogy of the symmetric quantum groups and q-calculus, and show that the q ↔ q−1 symmetric nonextensive entropy preserves all of the mathematical structure of thermodynamics just as in the case of non-symmetric Tsallis statistics. Basic properties and analogies with quantum groups are discussed. PACS: 05.20.-y; 0...
متن کاملTsallis Statistics : Averages and a Physical
Tsallis has proposed a generalisation of the standard entropy, which has since been applied to a variety of physical systems. In the canonical ensemble approach that is mostly used, average energy is given by an unnromalised, or normalised, q-expectation value. A Lagrange multiplier β enforces the energy constraint whose physical interpretation, however, is lacking. Here, we use a microcanonica...
