چکیده

It is argued that in the antiproton-proton annihilation into two mesons p̄p −→ m1m2, the origin of different angular momentum selection rules commonly obtained for planar annihilation diagrams A2 and for non-planar rearrangement diagrams R2 lies in the omission of momentum transfer between an annihilated antiquark-quark pair and a remaining quark or antiquark. Therefore, there is no reason for dismissing non-planar R2 diagrams in favor of planar A2 diagrams. Some considerations in the related crossed-channel meson-nucleon scattering m1N −→ m2N , within the framework of QCD in the limit of large Nc, shed light on the planar and non-planar contributions to the total annihilation amplitude. In this limit of QCD, it is shown that the N̄N annihilation into two mesons is of order N c for A2 and Nc for R2 diagrams. This Nc-order in the A2 case is already known from baryon-meson scattering as investigated by Witten. ∗ [email protected] Unité de Recherche des Universités Paris 6 et Paris 7, associée au CNRS

Decuplet contribution to the meson-baryon scattering lengths

We calculate decuplet contributions to the s-wave pseudoscalar meson octet-baryon scattering lengths to the third order in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBχPT). Using experimental pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering lengths as inputs, we determine low-energy constants and predict other meson-baryon scattering lengths. Numerically we consider three cases: (1) the case with only b...

Baryon-baryon and baryon-antibaryon interaction amplitudes in the spin–momentum operator expansion method

Partial wave scattering amplitudes in baryon-baryon and baryon-antibaryon collisions and amplitudes for the production and decay of baryon resonances are constructed in the framework of the spin-momentum operator expansion method. The approach is relativistically invariant and it allows us to perform combined analyses of different reactions imposing analyticity and unitarity directly. The role ...

Singularities of massless planar diagrams , large - N c mesons in 3 + 1 dimensions , and the ’ t Hooft model

We study the singular Landau surfaces of planar diagrams contributing to scattering of a massless quark and antiquark in 3 + 1 dimensions. In particular, we look at singularities which remain after integration with respect to the various angular degrees of freedom. We derive a general relation between these singularities and the singularities of quark-antiquark scattering in 1 + 1 dimensions. W...

Baryon Number Fluctuation and the Quark-Gluon Plasma

Because of the fractional baryon number of quarks, baryon and antibaryon number fluctuations in the quark-gluon plasma is less than those in the hadronic matter, making them plausible signatures for the quark-gluon plasma expected to be formed in relativistic heavy ion collisions. To illustrate this possibility, we have introduced a kinetic model that takes into account both production and anni...

Baryon Resonances in the 1/nc Expansion

The 1/Nc expansion of QCD provides a valuable semiquantitative tool to study baryon scattering amplitudes and the short-lived baryon resonances embedded within them. A generalization of methods originally applied in chiral soliton models in the 1980’s provides the key to deriving a rigorous 1/Nc expansion. One obtains model-independent relations among amplitudes that impose mass and width degen...
