چکیده

UNLABELLED Temporal resolution hearing skills are based on the minimum time necessary to segregate or solve acoustic events. This skill is fundamental for speech comprehension and can be assessed by gap detection tests. Some studies point to a right ear advantage over the left ear in temporal resolution tasks, since there is a preferential role of the left hemisphere in analyzing the temporal aspects of the acoustic stimulus. AIM determine if there are response differences (gap detection thresholds and percentage of correct answers) between right and left ears in a gap detection test. STUDY experimental. MATERIALS AND METHODS the gap detection test was applied to 100 adult individuals, after carrying out other audiologic tests in order to rule out possible hearing and/or auditory processing disorders. RESULTS We observed gap detection thresholds and average correct answers percentages, which were similar for both ears, regardless of which ear started the test. CONCLUSION There was no ear advantage in the gap detection task.

Temporal resolution: assessment procedures and parameters for school-aged children.

UNLABELLED Temporal resolution enables the identification of fine differences in speech segmental aspects. Random Gap Detection Test (RGDT) and Gaps-In-Noise Test (GIN) evaluate such skills, by using different acoustic parameters. OBJECTIVE To compare the performance of normal school aged children without learning disabilities and/or hearing complaints in the GIN and RGDT, and analyze potenti...

Gaps-in-Noise test: gap detection thresholds in 9-year-old normal-hearing children.

PURPOSE To establish the standard criteria for the Gaps-in-Noise (GIN) test in 9-year-old normal-hearing children; to obtain the mean gap detection thresholds; and to verify the influence of the variables gender and ear on the gap detection thresholds. METHODS Forty normal-hearing individuals, 20 male and 20 female, with ages ranging from 9 years to 9 years and 11 months, were evaluated. The ...

Dichotic listening after cerebral hemispherectomy: methodological and theoretical observations.

We examined two commonly used dichotic listening tests for measuring the degree of hemispheric specialization for language in individuals who had undergone cerebral hemispherectomy: the consonant-vowel (CV) nonsense syllables and the fused words (FW) tests, using the common laterality indices f and lambda. Hemispherectomy on either side resulted in a massive contralateral ear advantage, demonst...

سایکوآکوستیک و درک گفتار در افراد مبتلا به نوروپاتی شنوایی و افراد طبیعی

Background: The main result of hearing impairment is reduction of speech perception. Patient with auditory neuropathy can hear but they can not understand. Their difficulties have been traced to timing related deficits, revealing the importance of the neural encoding of timing cues for understanding speech. Objective: In the present study psychoacoustic perception (minimal noticeable differen...
