چکیده
PURPOSE Our purpose is to evaluate the efficiency and mean term complications in percutaneous bile drainage through a retrospective study of 50 cases METHODS Fifty patients aged from 24 to 87 years underwent perecutaneous bile drainage in the Radiology Department of Mongi Slim hospital. Patients had external drainage, internal drainage or endoprotheses. Clinical and biological features were used to evaluate efficiency and complications. RESULTS Bile drainage was successful in 49 cases. Intra hepatic bile ducts were dilated in most of the cases (40 patients). A right lobe puncture was performed preferentially (41 patients). Fifteen patients had endoprotheses, 3 patients had internal drainage and 31 patients had external drainage. Clinical and biological improvement was noted in all patients. Complications were noted in 16 cases mainly in patients with neoplastic obstruction. CONCLUSION Percutaneous bile drainage is an effective method for the treatment of biliary obstruction. Complications are rare, occurring most frequently in patients with neoplastic obstruction.

Percutaneous ultrasound-guided drainage of the biliary tree in palliative treatment of mechanical jaundice: 17 years of experience
INTRODUCTION Advanced malignant tumours involving the head of the pancreas, gallbladder or extrahepatic bile ducts usually lead to the development of cholestasis. In such cases improvement of the quality of life of patients can be achieved with the decompression of jaundice. Endoscopic implantation of self-expanding or (seldom) rigid plastic stents into the biliary tree constitutes the most com...
متن کاملTherapeutic endoscopic ultrasonography in pancreatic malignancy. Is the ERCP passè?
Endoscopic biliary stenting is the most common method of treating obstructive jaundice. But, in about 3-12% of cases, selective cannulation of the major papilla fails and surgery or percutaneous biliary drainage is required. But, percutaneous drainage requires dilated intrahepatic biliary ducts, and the rate of complications reaches 20%. including cases of peritoneal bleeding. A new technique o...

CONTEXT Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the procedure of choice for biliary decompression in patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer. However, it may be unsuccessful in 3 to 10% of cases. When ERCP is unsuccessful, the usual alternatives are percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage or surgery. Recently, several authors have reported the use of EUS-guided biliary ...

BACKGROUND Real-time virtual sonography (RVS) is a diagnostic imaging support system that can synchronize with ultrasound images in conjunction with computed tomography or magnetic resonance images using magnetic navigation system. RVS has been applied in clinical practice to perform such procedures as radiofrequency ablation and biopsy; however, the application of RVS for percutaneous transhep...

MATERIALS AND METHODS Between September 1997 and June 2006, 157 liver transplantations were performed in our hospital. Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage was performed in 10 patients (9 males, 1 female; mean age, 32.9 y...
