Group Decision-Making Models for Sequential Tasks
نویسندگان
چکیده
The sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) and related drift-diffusion model (DDM) are optimal for choosing between two hypotheses using the minimal (average) number of samples and relevant for modeling the decision-making process in human observers. This work extends these models to group decision making. Previous works have focused almost exclusively on group accuracy; here, we explicitly address group decision time. First, we derive explicit solutions for the error rate and probability distribution function of decision times for a group of independent, (possibly) nonidentical decision makers using one of three simple rules: Race, Majority Total, and Majority First. We illustrate our solutions with a group of N i.i.d. decision makers who each make an individual decision using the SPRTbased DDM, then compare the performance of each group rule under different constraints. We then generalize these group rules to the η-Total and η-First schemes, to demonstrate the flexibility and power of our approach in characterizing the performance of a group, given the performance of its individual members.

Convergence in a sequential two stages decision making process
We analyze a sequential decision making process, in which at each stepthe decision is made in two stages. In the rst stage a partially optimalaction is chosen, which allows the decision maker to learn how to improveit under the new environment. We show how inertia (cost of changing)may lead the process to converge to a routine where no further changesare made. We illustrate our scheme with some...
متن کاملMatrix Sequential Hybrid Credit Scorecard Based on Logistic Regression and Clustering
The Basel II Accord pointed out benefits of credit risk management through internal models to estimate Probability of Default (PD). Banks use default predictions to estimate the loan applicants’ PD. However, in practice, PD is not useful and banks applied credit scorecards for their decision making process. Also the competitive pressures in lending industry forced banks to use profit scorecards...
متن کاملThe Impact of Decision-making Tasks and Production Tasks On the Collocational Knowledge of Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners
The current study is an attempt to investigate the impact of decision-making (selecting and matching) tasks and production (creation of sentences and completion of sentences) tasks on the collocational knowledge of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. To this end, sixty EFL learners were divided into two experimental (decision-making and production) groups. To determine the effects of the tasks, ...
متن کاملLanguage Skill-Task Corollary: The Effect of Decision-Making vs. Jigsaw Tasks on Developing EFL Learners’ Listening and Speaking Abilities
Task-based language Teaching (TBLT) has occupied the pertinent literature for some long years. However, the role of specific task type in developing specific skill type seems to be amongst the intact issues in the literature. To shed more light on this issue, the present study was conducted to compare the effect of jigsaw and decision-making tasks on improving listening and speaking abilities o...
متن کاملBayesian Modeling of Human Sequential Decision-Making on the Multi-Armed Bandit Problem
In this paper we investigate human exploration/exploitation behavior in sequential-decision making tasks. Previous studies have suggested that people are suboptimal at scheduling exploration, and heuristic decision strategies are better predictors of human choices than the optimal model. By incorporating more realistic assumptions about subject’s knowledge and limitations into models of belief ...
