چکیده
We have designed and demonstrated a standoff Raman system for detecting high explosive materials at distances up to 50 meters in ambient light conditions. In the system, light is collected using an 8-in. Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope fiber-coupled to an f/1.8 spectrograph with a gated intensified charge-coupled device (ICCD) detector. A frequency-doubled Nd : YAG (532 nm) pulsed (10 Hz) laser is used as the excitation source for measuring remote spectra of samples containing up to 8% explosive materials. The explosives RDX, TNT, and PETN as well as nitrate- and chlorate-containing materials were used to evaluate the performance of the system with samples placed at distances of 27 and 50 meters. Laser power studies were performed to determine the effects of laser heating and photodegradation on the samples. Raman signal levels were found to increase linearly with increasing laser energy up to approximately 3 x 10(6) W/cm2 for all samples except TNT, which showed some evidence of photo- or thermal degradation at higher laser power densities. Detector gate width studies showed that Raman spectra could be acquired in high levels of ambient light using a 10 microsecond gate width.

Highly Selective Standoff Detection and Imaging of Trace Chemicals in a Complex Background using Single-Beam Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy
A sensitive, non-destructive and highly selective method of standoff detection using coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) is presented. The approach uses a single amplified femtosecond laser to generate high resolution (<10cm) multiplex CARS spectra encompassing the fingerprint region (400cm – 2500cm) at standoff distance. Quantitative studies of this method result in detection of 2μg...

Both standoff Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Raman technologies have recently made great strides towards being deployed for operational use. Both technologies have demonstrated impressive capabilities of detection and discrimination of residue amounts of explosives at distances of 50+ meters in recent tests at the National Training Center, Ft. متن کاملUV gated Raman spectroscopy for standoff detection of explosives
Real-time detection and identification of explosives at a standoff distance is a major issue in efforts to develop defense against so-called improvised explosive devices (IED). It is recognized that the only method, which is potentially capable to standoff detection of minimal amounts of explosives is laser-based spectroscopy. LDS technique belongs to trace detection, namely to its micro-partic...
متن کاملVisible and Uv Standoff Raman Measurements in Ambient Light Conditions Using a Gated Spatial Heterodyne Raman Spectrometer
Overview: Raman spectroscopy is ideally suited for planetary exploration, because Raman spectra provide detailed molecular and structural information very useful for geochemical measurements as well as to measure organic and inorganic biomarkers in the search for past or present life on other planets [1]. Raman scattering, a very weak process, can be relatively strong at deep UV wavelengths bec...
متن کاملStandoff and arms-length detection of chemicals with single-beam coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering.
The detection of chemicals from safe distances is vital in environments with potentially hazardous or explosive threats, where high sensitivity and fast detection speed are needed. Here we demonstrate standoff detection of several solids, liquids, and gases with single-beam coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering. This approach utilizes a phase coherent ultrabroad-bandwidth femtosecond laser to p...
